To ward off flies, all you’ll require is lemon, rosemary, cloves and lemongrass essential oil, reports the Express<\/a>.<\/p>\n How to deter flies from homes this summer<\/strong><\/p>\n Fill a saucepan approximately halfway with water. Cut up one lemon before placing it in the pan, together with 10 to 20 cloves, one to two sprigs of rosemary, and 10 to 20 drops of lemongrass essential oil.<\/p>\n Place the saucepan on the hob and heat until the water starts to simmer. Once the water starts to bubble and produce steam, allow the mixture to simmer for a couple of hours, enabling the fragrance to drift through the air.<\/p>\n Anna Louisa explained that you can top up the water in the pot whenever necessary. Should you wish to use this method over a longer period, she recommended refreshing the water and other ingredients every couple of days, as the scent will otherwise begin to diminish.<\/p>\n The mixture can also be decanted into a spray bottle if you’d like to use it throughout other rooms in the house. Its robust, woody scent acts as a natural deterrent, as it contains potent aromatic essential oils including camphor, eucalyptol, and cineole, which overwhelm flies’ sensory receptors and disguise the appealing food aromas drifting from the kitchen.<\/p>\n Likewise, flies detest cloves due to the presence of eugenol, a powerful chemical compound with an intense, sharp scent that interferes with their scent pathways, overpowers their nervous systems, and functions as a natural toxin or deterrent.
