This story is incredibly written, incredibly acted, and incredibly animated. I feel so many layered emotions when I watch this film, and I\u2019m just hoping that my music can speak to those feelings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWhen I was a kid, the thing that made me fall in love with film music was when I could listen to the score and almost remember the entire film. And my aim always, especially with a film like \u2018Steps,\u2019 is that someone can listen to the score by itself and remember the entire journey they felt while watching.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDirected by Alyce Tzue and John Ripa, \u201cSteps\u201d puts a twist on the story of Cinderella\u2019s evil stepsisters. The animated film follows Lilith (Ali Wong), who is blamed for hijacking the Royal Ball with a stolen magic wand. She accidentally turns her sister, Margot (Stephanie Hsu), into a frog and leaves the kingdom in the hands of a prince-obsessed mean girl. Now Lilith must team up with Cinderella (Amanda Seyfried) \u2014 and a surprisingly dreamy troll \u2014 to save the kingdom, repair the fractured fairytale and prove that even so-called \u201cvillains\u201d deserve a shot at happily-ever-after.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/bette-midler\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bette Midler<\/a>\u00a0rounds out the starry ensemble, voicing the the fairy godmother.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs previously announced, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/daniel-radcliffe\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Daniel Radcliffe<\/a>\u00a0will voice the royal role in Netflix\u2019s upcoming animated feature, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/steps\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Steps.<\/a>\u201c Also joining the cast are Young Mazino as Gef, \u201cThe Heartthrob,\u201d and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/peter-dinklage\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peter Dinklage<\/a>\u00a0as Roderick, \u201cThe Muscle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTzue said, \u201cKris has been a dream collaborator for us on \u2018Steps.\u2019 He\u2019s not only extremely talented, he\u2019s always open to new ideas. It\u2019s always \u2018yes, and,\u2019 and our wonderful score is the result of his generous collaboration and fierce, creative vision.\u201d She added, \u201cKris has this unique talent of being able to get into the heads and hearts of our characters. When he plays piano, it\u2019s like he draws a string from what he\u2019s feeling through the instrument to his audience. Similarly, when he composes score, he draws a string of emotion from the characters behind the screen, through the screen, to the people watching. It\u2019s raw and unfiltered, and it\u2019s very special.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTzue previously shared more details about the film saying, \u201cThis story is, at its core, about two very different sisters \u2014\u00a0one who fits perfectly into this fairy tale kingdom and one who doesn\u2019t \u2014 realizing they\u2019re more alike than different.\u201d It\u2019s a personal tale for Tzue who added, \u201cGrowing up as an awkward, artsy Taiwanese kid\u00a0in suburban New Jersey, I often felt like an outsider, like \u2018happily ever after\u2019 wasn\u2019t meant for me. I wanted to create a film for everyone who has ever felt like they didn\u2019t belong \u2014 and show how a single act of kindness can change everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tRipa added, \u201cWhen we first met Kris, he talked about his process \u2014 how when he sits down at the piano to explore the characters and themes, it\u2019s the deep emotions of the characters that drive what comes out. It\u2019s intuitive, honest, and raw. He thinks about music in ways that become essential to each character\u2019s voice.
