The rumour mill has been in overdrive when it comes to who\u2019ll be the next James Bond<\/a> \u2013 and presenter Richard Osman<\/a> has now shared the 007 name that\u2019s been revealed to him. <\/p>\n

In the latest episode of The Rest Is Entertainment podcast, the former Pointless star said that a Scottish actor is being \u201cstrongly considered\u201d for the iconic role. <\/p>\n

Teasing the discussion early on in the podcast, Osman said: \u201cSomeone told me for definite who the new Bond is the other day, but I mean that\u2019s happened before.\u201d<\/p>\n

He later told co-host Marina Hyde: \u201cThe name I\u2019ve heard is Jack Lowden<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is definitively not a \u2018he\u2019s definitely got it\u2019 thing. He is definitely being strongly considered. I think he’d be amazing.\u201d <\/p>\n

Hyde concurred that, at 36, Lowden is at \u201ca good age\u201d to play 007, with Osman adding: \u201cI think Jack Lowden would be an incredible Bond. He\u2019s got real Daniel Craig energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lowden is best known for playing River Cartwright in Slow Horses, while his other credits include the BBC\u2019s adaptation of Hilary Mantel\u2019s Wolf Hall, Dunkirk (2017) and Mary Queen of Scots (2018). Later this year, he\u2019ll appear as Mr Darcy in Netflix\u2019s new adaptation of Pride & Prejudice<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Osman and Hyde were discussing new research which reveals the public\u2019s top picks for Bond are Inception\u2019sTom Hardy and Superman star Henry Cavill. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe absolutely have to take into account [that] the public would have been wrong on every single Bond appointed, apart from maybe Pierce Brosnan,\u201d Osman said. <\/p>\n

In recent months, Wuthering Heights star Jacob Elordi and Masters of the Air actor Callum Turner have frequently been touted as the frontrunners for the role<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Australian actor Elordi, 29, largely won praise for his star turn as Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell\u2019s Emily Bront\u00eb adaptation<\/a>. Meanwhile, 36-year-old Turner\u2019s latest big-screen outing, rom-com One Night Only, hasn\u2019t fared so well with critics \u2013 and one has even gone as far as giving it zero stars<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Nina Gold \u2013 one of the best-known and well-respected casting directors in Hollywood \u2013 is overseeing the search for the next Bond<\/a>. Gold\u2019s previous projects include Slow Horses, in which Lowden stars alongside Gary Oldman. <\/p>\n

Dune director Denis Villeneuve will be at the helm of the next Bond film and it\u2019s believed Amazon MGM Studios is working towards a 2028 release date, with the new Bond expected to be named by the end of the year<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Bond producer Amy Pascal said last week<\/a>: \u201cWe are being really, really methodical. Having worked with Barbara Broccoli at the studio, I mean, Daniel Craig is a hard act to follow.\u201d<\/p>\n
