The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) is set to issue an advisory soon, asking caterers to display the calorific content of food items served at events attended by more than 50 diners.Officials said the move is aimed at curbing overeating at large social gatherings.“When people attend weddings or large events, dish after dish is served — mutton curry, fish fry, biryani, sambar, rice and one or two sweet dishes as well. By the end of such a meal, a person could consume as many as 5,000 calories at one sitting,” said K Srinivas, the FDA commissioner. He added: “When combined with other meals of the day, the person’s sugar and sodium consumption shoots up. Such consumption over time can lead to high blood pressure and diabetes. When a calorie chart is displayed, people will become more mindful of what they eat and how much.”With the number of cloud kitchens and home chefs growing by the day, FDA is also considering special drives to inspect the safety practices and quality of ingredients used by these setups.

AI Image Used For Representational Purpose Only BENGALURU: The next time you attend a wedding or social event…

[277
267738,20414,180717,267724,267723,267732,267727,267742,2675,18,267729,267731,267722,162796,267735,215389,267744,267741,267737,135,1693,267743,267740,19,17,267730,267734,267733,508,267746,1405,267745,267739,132947,167944,267736,267726,267728,267725
post-633366","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nutrition","tag-5000-calories","tag-bengaluru","tag-biryani","tag-calorie-breakdown","tag-calorie-chart","tag-calorie-labeling","tag-caterers","tag-cloud-kitchens","tag-diabetes","tag-eire","tag-events-with-more-than-50-people","tag-excessive-food-consumption","tag-fda-advisory","tag-fda-commissioner","tag-fish-fry","tag-food-safety-and-drug-administration","tag-food-safety-inspections","tag-food-service-regulations","tag-fried-items","tag-health","tag-high-blood-pressure","tag-home-chefs","tag-hotels-and-restaurants-regulations","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-k-srinivas","tag-kebab","tag-mutton-curry","tag-nutrition","tag-quality-of-ingredients","tag-rice","tag-safety-practices","tag-sodium-consumption","tag-sugar-consumption","tag-sweets","tag-vegetable-sambar","tag-wedding-catering","tag-wedding-events","tag-wedding-feasts
["GET
