{"id":633552,"date":"2026-08-12T17:25:22","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T17:25:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/633552\/"},"modified":"2026-08-12T17:25:22","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T17:25:22","slug":"indias-july-inflation-accelerates-to-4-45-raising-rate-hike-hopes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/633552\/","title":{"rendered":"India\u2019s July inflation accelerates to 4.45%, raising rate hike hopes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"InlineVideo-videoThumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/108348219-17865113051786511302-47719726130-1080pnbcnews.jpg\" alt=\"RBI to hike rates by 50 bps, existing stabilization measures sufficient: Analyst\"\/><\/p>\n<p>India&#8217;s consumer price inflation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mospi.gov.in\/uploads\/latestReleases\/latest_release_1786529680747_3113661d-1a2b-4b9a-af06-b340193ef9a0_Press_Release_CPI_July_2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">continued to climb for the ninth month<\/a> in a row to 4.45% in July, up from 4.38% in June, firming up prospects of the country&#8217;s central bank raising interest rates later this year.<\/p>\n<p>However, the headline inflation number was marginally below economists&#8217; expectations for a 4.50% rise, according to a Reuters poll.<\/p>\n<p>India&#8217;s food inflation rose 5.5%, while personal transport and goods transport inflation rose above 7% each in July, India&#8217;s Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation\u00a0said in a Monday release.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, India&#8217;s central bank <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/08\/05\/india-rbi-interest-rate-inflation-iran-war.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">kept benchmark interest rates<\/a> unchanged in contrast to many of its Asian peers, who hiked rates to tackle inflationary headwinds caused by the disruption of global energy supply chains amid the Iran war.<br \/><strong><br \/><\/strong>India, the world&#8217;s fastest-growing major economy, is among the countries most\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/03\/02\/india-impact-iran-middle-east-conflict-oil-prices-airlines.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">vulnerable to the supply disruptions<\/a>\u00a0caused by the war. The South Asian country imports\u00a0nearly 85% of its fuel needs\u00a0and relies on the\u00a0energy supply chain through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/06\/11\/us-india-lng-lpg-supply.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Strait of Hormuz<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Deadly attacks on vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Oman heightened concerns over risks to global shipping routes and sent global oil prices <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/08\/12\/oil-prices-today-wti-brent-red-sea.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">higher to around $90 per barrel<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Sanjay Malhotra, the governor of the Reserve Bank of India, said that headline inflation had moved above its target of 4%, but added that core inflation has been &#8220;moderate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But he added that while India&#8217;s growth has been resilient so far, the outlook is &#8220;hazy&#8221; due to the uncertainties from the southwest monsoon, El Nino, geopolitics, and global trade policy.
