Mike Levin<\/a> (D-Calif.) has said servicemembers are dealing with inhumane physical conditions on board and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/shorts\/CABCFONy1nM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/shorts\/CABCFONy1nM\" aria-label=\"Rep. Jason Crow <\/a>(D-Colo.) has warned the mental &#8220;strain on our service members and their families is building week by week.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p class=\"timeline-fact\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2026\/08\/11\/multiple-uss-abraham-lincoln-sailors-have-tried-to-go-overboard-amid-extended-deployment-families-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2026\/08\/11\/multiple-uss-abraham-lincoln-sailors-have-tried-to-go-overboard-amid-extended-deployment-families-say\/\" aria-label=\"Navy Times\">Navy Times<\/a>, an independent news outlet that covers the U.S. Navy, reported multiple servicemembers have attempted to jump from the carrier and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stripes.com\/theaters\/us\/2026-08-11\/abraham-lincoln-middle-east-mental-health-town-hall-meeting-22506344.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.stripes.com\/theaters\/us\/2026-08-11\/abraham-lincoln-middle-east-mental-health-town-hall-meeting-22506344.html\" aria-label=\"Stars and Stripes\">Stars and Stripes<\/a>, another independent media publication, also reported on thwarted suicide attempts onboard. <\/p>\n<p class=\"timeline-fact\">One wife told Stars and Stripes her husband had texted her saying \u201che hopes he doesn\u2019t wake up tomorrow,\u201d and one parent told the outlet their sailor son reported &#8220;he and his shipmates constantly think about jumping off the ship just for relief.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p class=\"timeline-fact\">The crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln has stepped foot on land only two days since Nov. 21, according to Stars and Stripes\u2014one in Guam in December (where many sailors were not allowed to disembark) and one re-stocking stop in Oman in July, where sailors who could leave the ship were restricted to a secure compound within the port. <\/p>\n<p class=\"timeline-fact\">The public has been made aware of conditions onboard including rationed food and broken amenities, but Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth dismissed the accounts as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PeteHegseth\/status\/2045294598252036160\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/x.com\/PeteHegseth\/status\/2045294598252036160\" aria-label=\"more fake news.\">more fake news.<\/a>&#8221; <\/p>\n<p class=\"timeline-fact\">Forbes has reached out to the U.S. Navy for comment. <\/p>\n<p>CRUCIAL QUOTE<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Moldy showers, broken toilets, laundry down for weeks, long stretches with no hot water, a meal that came down to half a cup of rice and two tortillas,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MikeLevin\/status\/2086905931531427933\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/x.com\/MikeLevin\/status\/2086905931531427933\" aria-label=\"Levin\">Levin<\/a> said of life aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln.  \u201cNo soap, deodorant or toothpaste.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Key background<\/p>\n<p>The USS Abraham Lincoln, which functions as a mobile air base at sea, left its homeport in San Diego on Nov. 21 for a routine Pacific deployment. The carrier was redirected to the Middle East in January, ahead of the U.S. and Israel\u2019s attacks on Iran, and has been stationed in the Arabian Sea ever since. Officials have been unable to tell families when the Lincoln will return home, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stripes.com\/theaters\/us\/2026-08-11\/abraham-lincoln-middle-east-mental-health-town-hall-meeting-22506344.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.stripes.com\/theaters\/us\/2026-08-11\/abraham-lincoln-middle-east-mental-health-town-hall-meeting-22506344.html\" aria-label=\"Stars and Stripes\">Stars and Stripes<\/a> reported, adding &#8220;uncertainty&#8221; over when a deployment will end can take a &#8220;significant toll&#8221; on servicemembers. Vice Adm. Joseph Cahill, commander of Naval Surface Forces, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2026\/08\/11\/multiple-uss-abraham-lincoln-sailors-have-tried-to-go-overboard-amid-extended-deployment-families-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2026\/08\/11\/multiple-uss-abraham-lincoln-sailors-have-tried-to-go-overboard-amid-extended-deployment-families-say\/\" aria-label=\"told families\">told families<\/a> at a meeting in San Diego earlier this month he heard them &#8220;loud and clear&#8221; regarding the impact the extended deployment is having on sailors and families, and said the warship is equipped with deployment-resilience counselors and chaplains.<\/p>\n<p>BIG NUMBER<\/p>\n<p>Six months. The USS Gerald R. Ford, the largest and most advanced aircraft carrier ever built, holds the modern deployment record of 326 days at sea.
