{"id":6370,"date":"2025-08-18T04:35:20","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T04:35:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/6370\/"},"modified":"2025-08-18T04:35:20","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T04:35:20","slug":"vodafones-new-ai-assistant-trying-to-master-donegal-accent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/6370\/","title":{"rendered":"Vodafone\u2019s new AI assistant trying to master Donegal accent!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Vodafone Ireland has said their new AI-powered self-service assistant,TOBi, is working hard to master the Donegal accent!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The communications giant is addressing uniquely Irish challenges through TOBi\u2019s ongoing development, as it constantly learns to understand Irish tones and Irishisms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith three in five survey respondents acknowledging their own difficulties in understanding certain Irish accents (particularly Kerry, Cork, and Donegal), TOBi is being specially trained to recognise regional dialects and local expressions, from \u2018banjaxed\u2019 to \u2018acting the maggot\u2019,\u201d a Vodafone spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>One in three people believe AI can understand Irishisms, such as \u201cgrand\u201d or \u201cc\u2019mere to me\u201d \u2013 though \u201cbanjaxed\u201d (60%), \u201csucking diesel\u201d (59%) and \u201cacting the maggot\u201d (52%) were named the most confusing for both AI and people alike to understand.
