Fontaines D.C.<\/a>\u00a0have previewed their forthcoming single \u2018Marianne\u2019 and confirmed that their fifth studio album is on the way.<\/p>\n

The Dublin band shared a 30-second snippet of the song on YouTube earlier today (August 14), continuing the fraught, industrial energy that was\u00a0first\u00a0heard when\u00a0they debuted the track live in C\u00e1diz\u00a0last weekend<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Over a frenetic rhythm and sweeping strings,\u00a0Grian Chatten<\/a>\u00a0sings: \u201cThis year, you should come and stay here \/ You can follow my lead, I can help you disappear \/ Cinematic feeling, understand this is your life \/ You can go on dreaming, you can go under the knife \/ Marianne, this could be your fatal match\u201c.<\/p>\n

In a separate Instagram post, the band shared a new photograph of the five-piece taken by Elizaveta\u00a0Porodina, with a caption simply reading: \u201c5.\u201d As 2024\u2019s \u2018Romance<\/a>\u2018 was their fourth studio record, the message appears to confirm that its follow-up is well on its way.<\/p>\n

It comes just days after Fontaines premiered \u2018Marianne\u2019 and another unreleased song \u2018Six Shot Morning\u2019 during their first full headline show of the year in Spain last Saturday (August 8).<\/p>\n

With \u2018Marianne\u2019 suggesting a heavier\u00a0sound, \u2018Six Shot Morning\u2019 laid out a spacey, synth-led aesthetic. Check out\u00a0footage\u00a0of both\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The band have spoken about working on their fifth album for some time.\u00a0Talking to\u00a0NME\u00a0in February last year<\/a>, bassist Conor Deegan III said: \u201cIt\u2019s one of those things where we can\u2019t stop writing \u2013 it\u2019s something that we just do when we\u2019re with each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

Guitarist Carlos O\u2019Connell\u00a0offered another update in January, telling\u00a0NME<\/a>: \u201cWe\u2019ve been writing, it\u2019s been fun. We\u2019re at Reading & Leeds and there are a couple of shows before that. I think if the music is there, it could get busy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked about whether they might play new material at the festivals, he replied: \u201cI\u2019d say so. If there is stuff written, then I would say so,\u00a0yeah.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0what we used to do all the time, play the new stuff life \u2013 songs that\u00a0weren\u2019t\u00a0even finished. It\u2019s a good way to test the songs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fontaines will play a few shows around Europe \u2013 in France,\u00a0Switzerland\u00a0and Austria \u2013 in the coming days, before\u00a0topping the bill at Reading & Leeds at the end of the month<\/a>. They then return home\u00a0to headline Electric Picnic in Ireland on August 30<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Their return to the stage followed\u00a0the death of their manager Trevor Dietz<\/a>, who they described as \u201cthe sixth member of the band\u201d. Their first performance since his passing was at the BBC\u2019s final live session at Maida Vale earlier this month<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They released\u00a0the standalone single \u2018It\u2019s Amazing To Be Young\u2019 in February<\/a>,\u00a0covered\u00a0Sin\u00e9ad O\u2019Connor\u2019s \u2018Black Boys\u00a0On\u00a0Mopeds\u2019 for War Child\u2019s \u2018Help(2)\u2019 album<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0contributed to\u00a0the soundtrack for\u00a0Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man<\/a>.<\/p>\n
