\u201cMarvel\u2019s Wolverine\u201d is out Sept. 15, featuring a new storyline for the hero. <\/p>\n

A beloved superhero is clawing his way into a massive new video game\u2026 but in \u201cMarvel\u2019s Wolverine,\u201d out Sept. 15, Logan isn\u2019t one of the X-Men anymore.<\/p>\n

In this iteration, he instead joins Team X, a task force made up of familiar faces like Mystique and Sabretooth, as they face off with Bolivar Trask, a mad scientist hell-bent on eradicating mutants.<\/p>\n

The game had a hands-on preview event in Los Angeles last month, before a Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the game, Logan is no longer in the X-Men.<\/p>\n

When players first take control of Wolverine, he\u2019s wild in the woods with few memories of his past. For Insomniac\u2019s narrative director Walt Williams<\/strong>, that blank slate was vitally important, especially when Hugh Jackman <\/strong>has become so synonymous with the character.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a rare opportunity. Logan, as a character, has been dominated for over a decade by a very iconic performance,\u201d he says of the mutant, portrayed in the game by Aussie actor Liam McIntyre<\/strong>. \u201cWe\u2019re getting to reintroduce the world to Logan for the first time, and this is not something that pops up often. What is it about the character that we really want to explore?\u201d<\/p>\n

Even as Wolverine claws through jugulars and rips out enemies\u2019 entrails (with brutal haptic feedback so players can feel the gore through their controllers), a softer side emerges as he begins to pursue a burgeoning relationship with telepath Jean Grey.<\/p>\n

The project is from the studio behind the \u201cSpider-Man\u201d game.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s an outsider among outsiders, so being able to explore that relationship with Jean without any of the \u2018X-Men\u2019 already in existence, without that safe space of people welcoming him, that was a deep level of emotional connection for him and her that players have never seen before,\u201d Williams says. \u201cThis is a Logan that is going to surprise people in just how much he feels, and how much we\u2019re able to see how deeply he feels \u2013 not just about Jean, but about everything in the world \u2013 and how it\u2019s actually his desire for connection that drives a lot of that rage that he\u2019s known for.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jean\u2019s not the only key relationship at the heart of \u201cMarvel\u2019s Wolverine.\u201d Enter Dr. Nathaniel Essex, who finds Logan in the woods and helps him find purpose. <\/p>\n

The upcoming game has an ESRB rating of M for Mature.<\/p>\n

But comic fans know him by a different name: Mister Sinister.<\/p>\n

Unlike Insomniac\u2019s lighter fare including \u201cRatchet & Clank,\u201d \u201cMarvel\u2019s Spider-Man\u201d and \u201cSpyro,\u201d \u201cMarvel\u2019s Wolverine\u201d for PS5 carries an ESRB rating of M for Mature. <\/p>\n

\u201cWith Wolverine, there is obviously the surface level violence. But that rage and that violence is driven by a deep, deep well of emotion and feeling,\u201d Williams says. \u201cThe violence isn\u2019t just because this is a man who\u2019s traumatized.
