Twelve dolphins that were stranded on an Irish beach have been rescued.<\/p>\n

They became trapped on a beach west of Daingean U\u00ed Ch\u00fais, in Kerry, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

In total, there were 21, but nine died before rescuers could save them.<\/p>\n

The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, which spearheaded the operation, have thanked members of the public for their help.<\/p>\n

A member of the public first raised the alarm to Oceanworld Aquarium Dingle who in turn reached out to the IWDG for getting the dolphins back into the sea.<\/p>\n

Gardai, tourists and locals from the area were also involved in the rescue operation.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the IWDG said: “Through the incredible teamwork of both locals and visitors to the area, 12 dolphins… were successfully refloated.<\/p>\n

“This is no small achievement and it was all hands on deck including the local Garda who came down to help carry some of the individuals back to sea.<\/p>\n

“We would like to extend our most heartfelt thanks to all those that dropped everything to come and help us today.”<\/p>\n
