Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds<\/a>\u00a0have been photographed watching and enjoying\u00a0The Cure<\/a>\u00a0play their\u00a0headline set at Way Out West.<\/p>\n

Both bands were on the bill at the festival in Gothenburg on Friday (August 14), with Cave<\/a>\u00a0and co. delivering a two-hour set on the Azalea stage not long before The Cure topped the bill on the Flamingo stage to round out the night\u00a0with a huge, career-spanning show.<\/p>\n

Bad Seeds multi-instrumentalist\u00a0Warren Ellis<\/a>\u00a0later shared a carousel of photos and videos from the night, including one of the Bad Seeds watching The Cure together with their crew.<\/p>\n

\u201cWatching The Cure last night,\u201d Ellis wrote. \u201cBand and crew. What a band. What songs. Smithy you\u2019re the best. I saw them in 1984 the first time. And I will see them again and again and again and again and again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cave wrote about his own affection for The Cure in June, when responding to a fan question about \u201cthe worst thing about having become a really old rockstar\u201d on his blog The Red Hand Files<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He recalled meeting an elderly couple wearing matching Cure T-shirts in Odense, Denmark, who asked him for a selfie but struggled to\u00a0operate\u00a0their phone.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe worst thing about being an old rockstar is that the old rockstar\u2019s old fans don\u2019t know how to work their fucking phones,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThe couple stand there, jabbing uselessly at their screens, trying to get them to flip into selfie mode or whatever, saying, \u2018I\u2019m\u00a0not good with phones\u2019 and \u2018How does this thing work?\u2019 and \u2018Oh, my God\u2019 and \u2018I can\u2019t believe it\u2019s Nick Cave\u2019 and I try to help them, but I don\u2019t know how to work their phones either.\u201d<\/p>\n

After seeing himself in the resulting photo, Cave concluded that \u201cthe only real difference between me and these\u00a0dentured\u00a0old fuckers grinning into the camera beside me is that I dye my hair black.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI walk back to the hotel to write to you, Daffo,\u201d he finished. \u201cI put on The Cure.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cave also discussed his relationship with goth culture in his 2023 interview with\u00a0NME<\/a>. \u201cI think the\u00a0goths\u00a0have endured in a way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was the bane of our existence when we were young: that we were called a \u2018goth band\u2019. It was the last thing you wanted to be\u00a0called, because\u00a0we just\u00a0weren\u2019t. We were a comedy act! But I do have\u00a0a weird romance for that and their capacity to endure.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Cure\u2019s current festival tour follows the release of their 2024 comeback album \u2018Songs Of A Lost World<\/a>\u2018, their first studio record in 16 years.\u00a0It earned them the first Grammys of their career<\/a>.\u00a0Smith has since said\u00a0the follow-up is complete, while another more \u201cpoppy\u201d record is also being developed<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They will also play at Manchester\u2019s Wythenshawe Park on Friday (August 21), followed by Edinburgh Summer Sessions on Sunday (August 23). Find more information\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Bad Seeds, meanwhile,\u00a0played for nearly 50,000 people at Brighton\u2019s Preston Park last week<\/a>, which was \u201cthe largest ticketed event in Brighton\u2019s history. It included an appearance from\u00a0Kylie Minogue<\/a>\u00a0on \u2018Where\u00a0The\u00a0Wild Roses Grow\u2019, while\u00a0they also played a stripped-back show on the roof of Resident Records<\/a>\u00a0earlier in the day.<\/p>\n

Their tour continues at Flow Festival in Helsinki tonight (August 16), before concluding in Paris later this month.\u00a0Cave has also hinted that the group\u00a0are\u00a0\u201cmessing around\u201d in the studio<\/a>, with \u201cthe vague idea of perhaps\u00a0making a new record\u201d.<\/p>\n
