Townies have responded to\u00a0Wednesday<\/a>\u2018s song \u2018Townies\u2019 by releasing a track of their own named \u2018Wednesday\u2019 \u2013 check it out below.<\/p>\n

The Boston-formed, Los Angeles-based band \u2013 made up of Tom Lynch, Chris Magnani and Nolan Melia \u2013 released the single last Wednesday (August 12) through Brain Synthesizer.<\/p>\n

They first\u00a0signalled\u00a0their intention to reciprocate Wednesday\u2019s track around the time of the release of the \u2018Bleeds\u2019 album last September, on which \u2018Townies\u2019 appears. \u201cWait\u00a0til\u00a0they hear Wednesday by Townies,\u201d they wrote at the time.<\/p>\n

The track is\u00a0an angsty, pent-up emo track with chunky guitar riffs and\u00a0a melodic through line that\u00a0builds to\u00a0a fuzzy, frenetic payoff.<\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s \u2018Townies\u2019,\u00a0which appeared on\u00a0NME\u2018s list of the best songs of 2025<\/a>, was written by frontwoman Karly Hartzman about a friend who was subjected to sexual rumours and humiliation when they were teenagers.<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0NME\u00a0about the track last year<\/a>, Hartzman said:\u00a0\u201cShe wasn\u2019t holding on to the anger at those people, but you know how sometimes you\u2019re more defensive of your friend than yourself?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like it was just nice to tell someone that someone loves you, \u2018I feel this deeply about something that happened in high school\u2019, and I think that\u00a0dynamic is\u00a0really interesting. It was a fascinating thing to think about how people interpret women being \u2018promiscuous\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Bleeds\u2019 also scored a five-star review from\u00a0NME<\/a>, noting: \u201cWhen Lenderman peels off instant-fix guitar leads on \u2018Candy Breath\u2019 and \u2018Townies\u2019,\u00a0meanwhile, Wednesday\u2019s ability to retool debilitating lows into explosive highs becomes something euphoric.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month,\u00a0Hartzman also joined Hayley Williams at the Newport Folk Festival to perform \u2018Mirtazapine\u2019<\/a>.
