{"id":641982,"date":"2026-08-17T15:28:14","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T15:28:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/641982\/"},"modified":"2026-08-17T15:28:14","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T15:28:14","slug":"mpa-strikes-deal-with-bytedance-for-ip-protections-in-ai-models","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/641982\/","title":{"rendered":"MPA Strikes Deal with ByteDance for IP Protections in AI Models"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/motion-picture-association\/\" id=\"auto-tag_motion-picture-association\" data-tag=\"motion-picture-association\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Motion Picture Association<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/bytedance\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bytedance\" data-tag=\"bytedance\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ByteDance<\/a> on Monday said the two had developed a framework to protect the film and TV industries\u2019 intellectual property across ByteDance\u2019s suite of AI generative products, including the AI video and image generators <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/seedance\/\" id=\"auto-tag_seedance\" data-tag=\"seedance\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Seedance<\/a> and Seedream.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe memorandum of understanding (MOU) comes months after the MPA in February sent ByteDance a cease-and-desist letter and denounced the company following the release of Seedance 2.0, which saw creators produce riffs on actors including Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. The MPA accused the company at the time of \u201cdisregarding well-established copyright law that protects the rights of creators and underpins millions of American jobs\u201d on \u201ca massive scale.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe two sides eventually began conversations to develop IP protections in ByteDance\u2019s models, which the two said were reflected in the company\u2019s release of Seedance 2.5 and Seedream 5.0 Pro last month. The generators are available across the Chinese TikTok owner\u2019s collection of apps, including TikTok, the U.S. variant of TikTok, CapCut and Dreamina.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cToday\u2019s agreement illustrates our belief that copyright is a cornerstone of the film and television industry \u2013 and reinforces our commitment to protect creative content,\u201d MPA Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin said in a statement. \u201cFor the past several months, we have had constructive engagement with ByteDance to implement meaningful guardrails on Seedance and Seedream, and this MOU reflects our shared determination to continue our work together to further fortify those guardrails.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe move reflects how Hollywood has navigated the murkier elements of generative AI, a technology many in the industry are fascinated by yet worry undercuts their work through the unauthorized scraping of likenesses to train their models. The MPA similarly tore into OpenAI\u2019s former video model Sora before the company imposed its own guardrails.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cByteDance respects the intellectual property rights that underpin creative industries around the world, and we believe responsible innovation in AI goes hand in hand with meaningful protections for rightsholders,\u201d John Rogovin, ByteDance\u2019s general counsel, added in a statement. \u201cWe appreciate the productive engagement with the MPA and its members as we continue to strengthen safeguards across our generative AI services.
