{"id":642020,"date":"2026-08-17T15:58:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T15:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/642020\/"},"modified":"2026-08-17T15:58:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T15:58:11","slug":"gillian-anderson-says-sony-exited-the-salt-path-deal-after-scandal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/642020\/","title":{"rendered":"Gillian Anderson Says Sony Exited &#8216;The Salt Path&#8217; Deal After Scandal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/gillian-anderson\/\" id=\"auto-tag_gillian-anderson\" data-tag=\"gillian-anderson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gillian Anderson<\/a> has said that <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/sony\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sony\" data-tag=\"sony\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sony<\/a> ditched a deal to distribute \u201cThe Salt Path,\u201d in which she starred alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/jason-isaacs\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jason-isaacs\" data-tag=\"jason-isaacs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Isaacs<\/a>, after a scandal broke last summer over alleged fabrications in the supposedly true story.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBased on a memoir of the same name by Ray and Moth Winn, the book and film tell the story of a down-on-their-luck couple who walk the south coast of England after their home is repossessed and Moth is diagnosed with a terminal illness, emerging stronger and with a newfound sense of purpose.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAnderson played Ray while \u201cHarry Potter\u201d and \u201cWhite Lotus\u201d star Isaacs played Moth. Both the book and the screen adaptation were billed as a true story.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHowever last summer the U.K.\u2019s Observer newspaper reported that key elements of the Winns\u2019 story had been misrepresented, claiming that the couple had lost their house after Ray embezzled money and casting doubts on Moth\u2019s diagnosis of corticobasal degeneration which sees sufferers given an average of eight years to live. The couples\u2019 names were also revealed to be pseudonymous.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe Winns, who won numerous awards for the book, disputed the allegations at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt was really disappointing, a huge letdown,\u201d Anderson has now said of the scandal. \u201cThe story came out the week we were signing U.S. distribution and Sony withdrew. We had been so surprised by its success: \u2018What, really, this film about two old people going on a walk?\u2019 It felt like such a betrayal because we\u2019d spent time with [the Winns].\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSpeaking to The Times of London, Anderson said she has not heard from the couple but seemed to have some sympathy for them, telling the newspaper: \u201cIt must have been really unsettling, to be potentially, allegedly, not telling the truth on live TV.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tShe added: \u201cI was interested in the due diligence \u2014 like, how has it come to this? What degree of proof was there? They had told us that they couldn\u2019t talk about [a previous] legal case because it was ongoing. Anyway. It was unfortunate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs Variety exclusively reported earlier this year, the film is set to get <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/news\/gillian-anderson-jason-isaacs-the-salt-path-trailer-1236701693\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a North American release via Rialto Distribution International<\/a> later this month. \u201cThis is a film of quiet power,\u201d Kelly Rogers, CEO of Rialto, said at the time. \u201cIt speaks to something deeply human \u2013 love, endurance and the idea that it\u2019s never too late to begin again.
