Brendan O\u2019Carroll has announced the Mrs Brown\u2019s Boys Christmas and new year\u2019s specials have been cancelled as he faces an \u201cunexpected medical issue\u201d.<\/p>\n
The 70-year-old creator and star of the show announced in a statement that the recordings would not be going ahead as he required \u201cimmediate surgery\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is with sincere regret I must announce that due to an unexpected medical issue I will have to cancel the recordings of the 2026 Mrs Brown\u2019s Boys Christmas and new year\u2019s specials,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n
\u201cFollowing a CT Scan, it was found that I had two fractures in my mandible (jaw), which requires immediate surgery and a few months recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also announced that he would have to postpone his Mrs Brown\u2019s Boys D\u2019Panto? shows in Dublin and Killarney, which were scheduled for later this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis decision has not been taken lightly and has been made on medical advice from my consultant,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo say I am heartbroken is an absolute understatement.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would like to sincerely apologise to all our fans who were looking forward to seeing the shows and for any disappointment caused.\u201d<\/p>\n
The comedian and actor said he and MCD Productions were currently working to reschedule the shows for 2027.<\/p>\n
O\u2019Carroll went on to write he had also been speaking with the BBC about getting his TV series \u201cback on the screen\u201d in 2027.<\/p>\n
He then thanked MCD and the BBC for their \u201csupport and understanding at this difficult time\u201d.<\/p>\n
O\u2019Carroll said he was now focused on getting himself \u201cback to full health\u201d, saying: \u201cI genuinely cannot wait to see you all again in 2027\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur fans mean the world to us, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love and support and trust me Agnes Brown and her family will be back,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
A BBC statement said: \u201cWe wish Brendan a full and speedy recovery and are working with him on plans for Mrs Brown\u2019s Boys in 2027.\u201d<\/p>\n
O\u2019Carroll is best known for playing the matriarch, Agnes Brown, in the hit comedy series, which is broadcast on the BBC and RT\u00c9.<\/p>\n
Mrs Brown\u2019s Boys was first broadcast in 2011 and has since transmitted more than 50 episodes, including Christmas and New Years specials.<\/p>\n
In 2013 it topped the Christmas Day TV ratings in the UK, pulling in an audience of 11.5 million viewers.<\/p>\n
