\n\tChris Hansen<\/a>, you know how this looks, right?<\/p>\n

\n\tBecause that Primetime<\/a> movie trailer starring Robert Pattinson<\/a> makes the former \u201cTo Catch a Predator\u201d host look rather obsessed with fame.<\/p>\n

\n\tTo his credit, however, Hansen says he refuses to judge Primetime until he actually sees it (which will be next week, he says).<\/p>\n

\n\tBut during an interview<\/a> with podcaster Annie Elise, Hansen gave some preliminary thoughts about the project. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA couple months ago they came and said, \u2018Hey look, we\u2019re doing this, we\u2019d like you to have some sort of consideration in terms of helping us with this,’\u201d Hansen said, but noted he wasn\u2019t actually consulted on the film and the project was made before \u201cthey\u201d reached out. \u201cAs a reporter, it\u2019s sort of silly for me to talk about something that I haven\u2019t seen yet. My suspicion is that they used my name because it helps in a commercial enterprise.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAsked his thoughts on the film\u2019s trailer, at least, Hansen replied, \u201cIt looks dramatic. It looks very dramatic. I know [Robert Pattinson] is a popular actor and I know the director [Lance Oppenheim] is a popular guy. I also have some questions: What\u2019s Hollywood\u2019s motive here?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHansen noted he \u201cdidn\u2019t get to choose my own guy\u201d to play him. When asked who he would have picked, he replied, \u201cyears ago I had crafted a script and thought Denis Leary<\/a> would be a good guy to play me \u2014 depending on the age of it all.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tAll that said, \u201cI\u2019m busy being the real Chris Hansen.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tPrimetime also stars Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Phoebe Bridgers, Matthew Maher and Bokeem Woodbine.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTo Catch a Predator\u201d was a recurring series of segments on Dateline NBC<\/a> that ran from 2004 to 2007. The program worked with watchdog group Perverted Justice to lure men who believed they were arranging sexual encounters with minors to a sting house where they were confronted by Hansen, a camera team and police. The program was canceled amid legal and ethical fallout after one of the show\u2019s suspects shot himself as police and NBC\u2019s cameras entered his home.<\/p>\n
