Listen and find all the details below.<\/p>\n<p>The Irish indie heroes have been teasing their return for some weeks now, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/watch-fontaines-d-c-debut-two-new-songs-in-first-full-headline-show-of-2026-3961562\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">playing \u2018Marianne\u2019 alongside another new song, \u2018Six Shot Morning\u2019<\/a>, at their summer comeback shows before confirming that the single and new album were imminent. Later, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/fontaines-d-c-confirm-new-album-title-dopamine-chamber-in-cryptic-teaser-3963039\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">they revealed that their fifth studio record would be called \u2018Dopamine Chamber<\/a>\u2018 in a cryptic online teaser.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the band have shared the single in full to announce that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/james-ford\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">James Ford<\/a>-produced \u2018Dopamine Chamber\u2019 will arrive on October 16 via XL Recordings. Fans can pre-order the album <a href=\"https:\/\/fontainesdc.x-l.co\/dopamine-chamber\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The cinematic synth-noir \u2018Marianne\u2019 was inspired in part by the 2024 thriller series Ripley, and draws on feelings of escapism and surrender in the face of oblivion and catastrophe as frontman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/grian-chatten\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Grian Chatten<\/a> offers: \u201cThis year, you should come and stay here, you can follow my lead, I can help you disappear\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/track\/fontaines-d-c-marianne-track-review-new-album-dopamine-machine-lyrics-3963231\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">In a five-star review of the single<\/a>, NME wrote that \u2018Marianne\u2019 \u201ccomes from a destination of tension piercing a surreal dream, a dark lullaby where the elegiac synth majesty of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/depeche-mode\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Depeche Mode<\/a> meets a widescreen David Lynch scene of lush strings. The sense of place is well-earned, and the longing is ultra real. While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/features\/music-features\/fontaines-d-c-starbust-track-review-xl-romance-3618968\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Starburster\u2019<\/a>\u00a0was a sharp shock and intake of breath, \u2018Marianne\u2019 is an opening scene set in opulent colour and dizzying sound.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/track\/fontaines-d-c-marianne-track-review-new-album-dopamine-machine-lyrics-3963231\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Check out our review in full here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The follow-up to 2024\u2019s acclaimed and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/tag\/mercury-prize\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mercury<\/a>-nominated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/fontaines-d-c-romance-review-3784445\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Romance\u2019<\/a> follows the band\u2019s recent contributions to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/peaky-blinders-immortal-man-soundtrack-interview-listen-antony-genn-martin-slattery-fontaines-dc-grian-chatten-nick-cave-massive-attack-3931880\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peaky Blinders: Immortal Man\u00a0soundtrack<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/war-child-help-2-interview-james-ford-full-album-track-by-track-listen-3932764\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">War Child \u2018Help(2)\u2019 album<\/a>. \u2018Dopamine Chamber\u2019 moves deeper into \u201cdarker and more synthetic sounds\u201d, and searches for pleasure amid peril \u201cin a world tipping towards collapse\u201d from threats in digital and artificial worlds, as the band shared in an official statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe album itself is a dopamine chamber,\u201d said Chatten. \u201cYou step inside and we test these different mind or mood-altering pieces of music on you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3963237\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Fontaines-D.C.-Credit-Elizaveta-Porodina_edit.jpg\" alt=\"Fontaines D.C., 2026. Credit: Elizaveta Porodina<\/p>\n<p>The frontman, who spent time visiting Venice, Vienna and Sicily in search of lyrical inspiration, continued: \u201cI think \u2018Romance\u2019 was maybe 60 per cent human and 40 per cent corrupted by automation, and a loss of feeling. This one feels more like 60 per cent corrupted \u2013 the mask is wearing the face a little more. I felt it would be more powerful to leave the hope out and reflect the ugliness honestly. This one needed to feel more like a catastrophic warning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chatten added: \u201cThere\u2019s a poignant sense of us being on the brink of some other kind of form of humanity, or non-humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leaning into the themes of the record, bassist Conor \u2018Deego\u2019 Deegan shared: \u201cOur albums have always questioned a sense of place. First Dublin, then being away from Dublin, and then trying to find the romance elsewhere. Does that become the identity of the band, or actually, it\u2019s just a phase and you reinvent it? I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Connell continued: \u201cI personally like the idea of revisiting some old stuff at Reading &amp; Leeds, making the setlist maybe a bit more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/fontaines-dc-dogrel-album-review-2474751\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Dogrel\u2019<\/a>-heavy. I\u2019m excited about that. I\u2019ve been listening to music like that much more. This morning I was listening to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/sonic-youth\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sonic Youth<\/a>.
