Now, a new analysis shows that long-standing recommended sleep ranges have stood the test of time.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers from the National Sleep Foundation recently examined more than 3,200 sleep-related studies published since the organization released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.safetyandhealthmagazine.com\/13764-how-much-sleep-should-you-get-experts-expand-recommendations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">updated<\/a> sleep recommendations in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The findings? \u201cA decade of new science continues to support the original recommendations,\u201d the researchers say.<\/p>\n<p>NSF affirms the suggested nightly sleep ranges for nine age groups:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Newborns (ages 0-3 months): 14 to 17 hours daily<\/li>\n<li>Infants (4-11 months): 12 to 15 hours<\/li>\n<li>Toddlers (1-2 years): 11 to 14 hours<\/li>\n<li>Preschoolers (3-5): 10 to 13 hours<\/li>\n<li>School-age children (6-13): nine to 11 hours<\/li>\n<li>Teens (14-17): eight to 10 hours<\/li>\n<li>Young adults (18-25): seven to nine hours<\/li>\n<li>Adults (26-64): seven to nine hours<\/li>\n<li>Older adults (65 and older): seven to eight hours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThis review shows the core message remains unchanged: Getting the right amount of sleep is essential for health,\u201d said Joseph Dzierzewski, lead study author and NSF senior vice president of research and scientific affairs.<\/p>\n<p>The study was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sleephealthjournal.org\/article\/S2352-7218(26)00106-3\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">published<\/a> in the journal Sleep Health.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Getting enough sleep is an age-old foundation for good health.
