{"id":644059,"date":"2026-08-18T18:21:20","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T18:21:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/644059\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T18:21:20","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T18:21:20","slug":"rock-band-journey-to-begin-last-leg-of-us-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/644059\/","title":{"rendered":"Rock band Journey to begin last leg of US tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK (AP) \u2014 The long, riding road once more beckons for the members of iconic <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/television-programs-arts-and-entertainment-general-news-ce01e4cdbc5d4c71abe6f6118c1b9e9b\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rock band Journey.<\/a> Is it the band\u2019s final journey together?<\/p>\n<p>The last leg of what is being billed as their <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/journeymusic.com\/pages\/tour?srsltid=AfmBOooc8fesgKAkmrZaAzQ4xE6CTNSv9NP_IA3eCgY8mCttZEwt5V5l\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">farewell tour<\/a> kicks off in September in Los Angeles and what likely will be an emotional homecoming is at the end of it \u2014 in <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/san-francisco-sounds-music-docuseries-19a658aece9eeaabd4091f0eaf64d2d5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Francisco in November.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sure it\u2019s going to be somewhat emotional because that\u2019s where it all started,\u201d says co-founder and lead guitarist <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/television-programs-arts-and-entertainment-general-news-ce01e4cdbc5d4c71abe6f6118c1b9e9b\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Neal Schon.<\/a> \u201cI know the audience is going to be off the hook.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The band has plenty of dates before that finale, with stops in Phoenix, Seattle, Chicago, Atlanta, Nashville, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Detroit, Boston, Cleveland, Denver and Las Vegas, among others.<\/p>\n<p>The tour\u2019s last show in San Francisco will cap more than 100 concerts this year, and the band frequently plays for more than two hours, adding deep cuts \u2014 like the spacy, melodic \u201cOf a Lifetime\u201d from the early \u201870s and songs from the album \u201cRaised on Radio\u201d from the \u201980s \u2014 to the reliable hits, like \u201cFaithfully.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m loving it because it\u2019s the type of show I\u2019ve been wanting to do with Journey,\u201d says Schon, who is frustrated when the band is lumped in with other \u201880s bands like REO Speedwagon, Styx or Foreigner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always felt like even though all those bands have contributed something that a lot of people like, we were much different. I thought musically we could go any place that we wanted to. (AP Photo\/Phil Long, File)<\/p>\n<p>                Add AP News on Google <\/p>\n<p>        Add AP News as your preferred source to see more of our stories on Google.<\/p>\n<p>            Share<\/p>\n<p>                            Read More<\/p>\n<p>Journey has had six Top 10 hits on the Billboard singles chart \u2014 including \u201cOpen Arms\u201d and \u201cWho\u2019s Crying Now\u201d \u2014 and eight albums in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, including the 1981 No. 1 \u201cEscape.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Fans can expect to hear those hits as well as Journey\u2019s enduring anthem, \u201cDon\u2019t Stop Believin,\u2019\u201d which Schon wrote with keyboardist Jonathan Cain and then-lead singer Steve Perry.<\/p>\n<p>It has shown up in the Broadway show \u201cRock of Ages,\u201d the cut-to-black <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/d352e49963b24d40adc471f2ce6ed1fd\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">finale of \u201cThe Sopranos,\u201d<\/a> the TV show \u201cGlee,\u201d Brad Pitt\u2019s \u201cMoneyball,\u201d the movie \u201cMonster\u201d and the Democratic National Convention roll call in 2024. Journey returns to the road this fall after a summer in which \u201cDon\u2019t Stop Believin\u2019\u201d was heard at the World Cup and as the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nba-finals-spurs-knicks-game-4-ba83cdcb98f92d0c9fffd32a5745c97c\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Knicks won<\/a> the NBA crown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Don\u2019t Stop Believin\u2019\u2019 has surpassed our expectations,\u201d says Cain. \u201cEvery band wishes they had one and we have one. So, I guess that\u2019s our \u2018Hey Jude\u2019 calling card. So we\u2019ll take it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Schon and Cain, the current Journey lineup includes singer Arnel Pineda, keyboardist Jason Derlatka, drummer Deen Castronovo and bassist Todd Jensen. Schon, who cut his teeth playing with Carlos Santana, remembers Journey in the early days opening for Kiss, Jeff Beck and Cheech and Chong<\/p>\n<p>Touring seems to be the only way for most bands to make any money since each streaming song earns them a fraction of a penny. Journey has leaned into the tour, sometimes hitting three cities in one day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel bad for the new generation,\u201d says Cain. \u201cI remember when I got a big old fat royalty check and they were playing our songs on the radio and that a new album meant you would sell more tickets. Not so today.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The end point \u2014 Nov. 28 at the Chase Center \u2014 looms, but the band isn\u2019t sure what that night will include. \u201cIt\u2019ll be fitting to end there for sure,\u201d says Cain. \u201cWho knows who\u2019s going to show up? I don\u2019t know. There might be a reunion of sorts, I hope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After that, the band isn\u2019t certain. \u201cThe future kind of remains up in the air really,\u201d says Cain. Schon agrees but isn\u2019t ready to make predictions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not nearly done with what I want to do,\u201d he says. \u201cI think there\u2019s many great opportunities in the future.
