{"id":644121,"date":"2026-08-18T19:15:18","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T19:15:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/644121\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T19:15:18","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T19:15:18","slug":"there-are-still-thousands-of-tickets-unsold-for-the-weeknds-croke-park-gigs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/644121\/","title":{"rendered":"There are still thousands of tickets unsold for The Weeknd&#8217;s Croke Park gigs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THOUSANDS OF TICKETS are still available on Ticketmaster for The Weeknd\u2019s shows in Croke Park this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A quick look at the website shows tickets are still available for both the Saturday and Sunday night shows across almost every section of the stadium.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787080516_284_.png\"  alt=\"image (19)\" class=\"alignnone inline-image\" \/><br \/>\n                                Ticketmaster<\/p>\n<p>    Ticketmaster\n<\/p>\n<p>Though the Saturday show has a \u2018low ticket warning\u2019 on the event, there still appears to be many tickets listed for purchase.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Sunday show does not have this warning and seems to have even more tickets for sale.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787080517_218_.png\"  alt=\"image (18)\" class=\"alignnone inline-image\" \/><br \/>\n                                Ticketmaster<\/p>\n<p>    Ticketmaster\n<\/p>\n<p>Tickets up for sale across both days range in price from \u20ac68.40 before fees for the upper tier to \u20ac147.50 before fees for the gold front standing sections.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The tickets available are a mix between ones directly from Ticketmaster and their verified resale service, which allows fans to sell on tickets through the platform.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some of these tickets are being sold for well below face value with some listed for just \u20ac47.20 this afternoon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787080518_577_.png\"  alt=\"image (21)\" class=\"alignnone inline-image\" \/><br \/>\n                                Ticketmaster<\/p>\n<p>    Ticketmaster\n<\/p>\n<p>As it stands, it looks like there will be many empty seats for the gigs this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>On the Ticketmaster website you can zoom in to choose your preferred seat and section. A quick test of this shows rows of seats still unsold just days out from the concerts.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787080518_542_.png\"  alt=\"image (22)\" class=\"alignnone inline-image\" \/><br \/>\n            An example of some of those unsold seats in the 300s section of Croke Park for the Sunday show                    Ticketmaster<\/p>\n<p>    Ticketmaster\n<\/p>\n<p>Michael Murphy, a music industry lecturer at D\u00fan Laoghaire Institute Of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) told\u00a0The Journal\u00a0that it \u201ccomes down to supply and demand\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Though as a country we are \u201creally good at supporting live music\u201d people have a \u201cfinite amount of funds available\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Murphy said he has noticed more tickets being re-sold this year than previous summers, but people also often buy them \u201cnot intending to go\u201d and planning to sell them later.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He believes this could explain the number of tickets up for re-sale for The Weeknd\u2019s concerts this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Journal also\u00a0spoke to entertainment journalist Olivia Fahy about the gigs, and she said she was \u201creally surprised\u201d to hear that so many tickets were available because everyone she knows that\u2019s going to the concerts are \u201creally excited\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Fahy said the number of concerts and festivals this summer may be contributing to the unsold tickets: \u201cAnything in excess people get a bit tired.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But she did acknowledge that some of the gigs this summer have become the \u201cbig events of the country\u201d including shows from artists like Olivia Dean who played two sold out concerts in Marlay Park in June.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She also said Irish people have a habit of \u201cgetting caught up in the buzz\u201d when tickets go on sale first, and later realise they don\u2019t actually want to go, which could explain some of the tickets listed for re-sale on Ticketmaster.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Weeknd is one of the biggest global stars around and his song Blinding Lights holds the record for the most streams of any song on Spotify at over 5.5bn.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s currently on the After Hours Til Dawn Tour.<\/p>\n<p>He last played a gig in Ireland when he played to 40,000 people in a sold out Marlay Park back in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The last time an artist played two nights in Croke Park was Oasis last year on their sold out come-back tour.<\/p>\n<p>Bon Jovi is also playing the iconic venue this year and based on Ticketmaster sales, that gig will be at capacity.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"THOUSANDS OF TICKETS are still available on Ticketmaster for The Weeknd\u2019s shows in Croke Park this week.\u00a0 A&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":644122,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[75],"tags":[272573,29028,18,117,19,17],"class_list":["post-644121","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-entertainment","tag-blinding-lights-empty-seats","tag-can","tag-eire","tag-entertainment","tag-ie","tag-ireland"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@ie\/117118117821483879","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/644121","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=644121"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/644121\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/644122"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=644121"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=644121"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=644121"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
