\n\tThe Fast and the Furious<\/a> is turning 25, and to celebrate, the cast is dropping some franchise updates. <\/p>\n

\n\tAfter a buzzy midnight screening at Cannes<\/a> earlier this year, Universal is keeping the party going for the 2001 movie that started it all, including re-releasing The Fast and the Furious in theaters and hosting a special event in L.A. on Monday. <\/p>\n

\n\tLooking back at the Cannes screening, Michelle Rodriguez<\/a> told The Hollywood Reporter that she was \u201cin awe at all the love that we got,\u201d joking it was particularly powerful \u201cwith the studio heads present.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSometimes you fight over things [with the studio] that seem silly, like standing your ground on ethics or morals. From a studio perspective or from a broad macro perspective, it\u2019s like \u2018Oh these guys are just criminals, what do we care if they have morals?’\u201d she explained. \u201cWe fight for you to understand that it\u2019s not always back and white, there\u2019s always a grey area, and life is like that. All those fights kind of felt worth it\u201d seeing the fan reaction, and long standing ovation, in France. <\/p>\n

\n\tAnd after 10 movies over the last two and half decades, there\u2019s an 11th \u2014 and allegedly final \u2014 on the way, set for release<\/a> in March 2028. Star and producer Vin Diesel<\/a> has already publicly gushed<\/a> about the film, titled Fast Forever, online, calling it \u201cthe best script I have read in decades. I am still crying.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tRodriguez said she has not yet read the script, but \u201cif I have any wish for the last one, it\u2019s that they bring it back to the community because that community has kept us alive for 25 years; it\u2019s a global community, and it has to do with cars, not this 007, bring your cars to space shit,\u201d referencing a plot line from F9. \u201cLet\u2019s get back to what it all started as \u2014 an article in the paper about the race scene, let\u2019s go back there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJordana Brewster<\/a> echoed that she\u2019s talked to Diesel about the new movie but hasn\u2019t seen the script, with hopes that \u201cwe kind of go back to L.A., that would be really cool.\u201d And as for if this final movie will really be the end of the film franchise, Rodriguez said, \u201cIt\u2019ll be maybe the last one for us; we\u2019re like a bridge to another generation, we\u2019re passing the baton on. But I don\u2019t know, you talk to Vin and maybe it\u2019ll never end.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tOn top of Fast Forever, there is also at least one Fast & Furious TV series in works<\/a>, which will expand on the legacy characters. Brewster said of the pivot to TV, \u201cI so admire the Taylor Sheridan universe, so I feel like we can really do that with television too.\u201d She already has a series pitch ready, suggesting that her and Paul Walker\u2019s characters \u201chave a son and a daughter so I\u2019d love to follow their trajectory and see what hell it is to raise kids that have Mia\u2019s genes, Brian\u2019s genes and Dom\u2019s genes.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tInside the L.A. screening, Diesel delivered a long and emotional speech for the crowd, saying that after the \u201camazing experience\u201d of Cannes, \u201cthis studio said, \u2018We\u2019re going to take that experience and bring it back home.\u2019 I thought that\u2019s incredible, that\u2019s everything.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tHe also teased, \u201cThere\u2019s going to be an emotion you have when you watch this film \u2014 start getting used to that,\u201d ahead of Fast Forever. For the new movie, Diesel revealed \u201cwe went to four different writers, four years in development, and after I read the script, halfway through, one tear. By the end of the script, that we crafted and worked so hard to make right for you after four years, I was crying. And I couldn\u2019t hold it back,\u201d adding, \u201csometimes even the toughest guys in the world need to cry.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tDiesel closed with shouting out Walker\u2019s daughter Meadow in the crowd and recalling how \u201c25 years ago I was sitting in this row and I was sitting with Paul Walker,\u201d calling their friendship the \u201cgreatest gift God could bestow upon you.
