\n\tWell over a month ago \u2014 practically an eon in internet time \u2014 the little-known Los Angeles duo Twin Temple<\/a> garnered themselves a nice little press cycle<\/a> after claiming country star Charley Crockett<\/a> dropped them from his tour <\/a>over their \u201csatanic imagery.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe duo, who record cheeky Sixties-style songs about the devil and the occult, turned the attention into an invitation to open for Jack White<\/a> and a performance on The Daily Show<\/a>. Crocket, meanwhile, seemed to take it in stride, issuing a lighthearted statement at the time, \u201cI thought they were like Black Sabbath, but they ain\u2019t. Not today, Satan.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tIt was a fairly charming and utterly inconsequential little brouhaha that any reasonable person would say had more than run its course and fallen out of the public consciousness by today, Aug. 18. Everyone except, it appears, Charley Crockett, who seems to have spent the past month and a half dwelling on the whole thing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tCrockett said it was time to \u201cclear this up right quick\u201d in a lengthy post on Instagram<\/a>. He rebuffed Twin Temple\u2019s assertion that they were dropped over their \u201csatanic imagery,\u201d claiming instead that the group \u201cmade it up and dragged me by a rope real good.\u201d He accused numerous artists who\u2019d spent the past few years \u201cshowering me with praise\u201d of using the situation \u201cto kick me in the dick.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAnd he had some especially choice words for Jack White<\/a>. \u201c[H]e used it to sell tickets too and I lost a lot of respect for him. I wonder why he wasn\u2019t so outspoken back when he was in the White Stripes 20 something years ago. They purposely avoided political issues. Maybe he was worried about losing audience back when it was all on the line and he needed all the help he could get.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t(Ah, yes, the famously apolitical Jack White<\/a>, who released \u201cIcky Thump\u201d almost exactly 20 years ago and sometimes tweaked the lyrics to \u201cThe Big Three Killed My Baby\u201d \u2014 already a bit of a denunciation of Detroit automakers \u2014 to call out former president George W. Bush and the Iraq War.)\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAs for what actually happened with Twin Temple, Crockett claims he decided to drop the group about a month before their planned shows together due to concerns about their stage show. Crockett claimed the group\u2019s \u201cproduction requests raised eyebrows\u201d not because of the actual Satan-loving content, but because \u201cwe couldn\u2019t accommodate them physically.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tNot that he also wasn\u2019t seemingly concerned about Twin Temple\u2019s Satan-loving content. \u201cThen I noticed some of the things they\u2019d been doing on stage and after thinking about it for a couple days I decided to cut em loose,\u201d Crockett wrote. \u201cWe told em the vibe just wasn\u2019t right for an all ages audience, and we paid em in full.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tCrockett went on to complain that Twin Temple and their team \u201cplotted for days\u201d before dropping a statement that was \u201cdesigned for effect,\u201d and to make it look as if the country artist had booted them for a whole tour, and not just a couple shows. He also called out the band for \u201cdog whistling about religious and creative freedom,\u201d while ignoring his \u201crights\u201d in the course of ginning up press.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s my fault, I let \u2019em slip through and being that this here\u2019s my outfit, I\u2019m the responsible party,\u201d Crockett said. \u201cI reacted. I might respond differently now but everybody\u2019s got perfect vision in hindsight. I think the most difficult part of the whole deal was the way the media, save for one outlet, cared nothing for the truth. They sanitized these folks\u2019 image for their own uses in the click bait traffic game that is America\u2019s left-right culture war.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter Crockett mentioned that he \u201cwon\u2019t forget\u201d the artists who \u201capplauded\u201d while he was \u201cface down in the dirt coughing up blood\u201d (metaphorically speaking, we assume), he closed with the defiant salvo: \u201cFunny, I\u2019ve got everything to lose right this minute and I still shoot from the hip. I\u2019ve been speaking from my heart against the wishes of the machine my whole life. Real patriots think for themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs Crockett continues to grapple with the events of the past month and a half, we might encourage him to look up \u201cStreisand effect,\u201d or consider the words<\/a> of a wise man: \u201cand another thing: im not mad. please dont put in the newspaper that i got mad.\u201d<\/p>\n
