{"id":644259,"date":"2026-08-18T21:07:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T21:07:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/644259\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T21:07:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T21:07:13","slug":"new-eu-handling-fee-due-to-come-in-will-likely-apply-to-each-item-within-a-parcel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/644259\/","title":{"rendered":"New EU &#8216;handling fee&#8217; due to come in will &#8216;likely&#8217; apply to each item within a parcel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW HANDLING fee to be imposed from November on parcels ordered from outside the European Union will likely apply to each item within a package, a customs compliance expert has warned.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new fee, which is designed to cover costs associated with customs processing, will likely be \u20ac2, but the exact details haven\u2019t been released yet.<\/p>\n<p>The fee will be on top of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejournal.ie\/new-custom-charges-on-orders-from-outside-the-eu-kicking-in-today-7079575-Jul2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u20ac3 customs charge which has applied to every unique item<\/a> in orders worth \u20ac150 or less coming from outside the EU since 1 July, a charge imposed in a bid to improve EU security and level the playing field for businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Customs compliance expert Brian Murphy told The Journal that it\u2019s \u201cvery likely\u201d the new handling fee will also be placed on individual items in the parcel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat fee is going to be on top of the customs \u20ac3 fee. So, it could double the charges again, potentially, and that\u2019s very real and coming in very soon,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>If the handling fee applies per unique item in a package, the cost of each item would increase by around \u20ac5 in total after the \u20ac3 customs fee is also applied.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Murphy said the \u20ac3 fee was just one of a number of changes coming over the next 18 months as part of an overall EU customs reform plan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the largest shake-up of EU customs since 1968, and e-commerce parcels are a particular target of this plan,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe future of e-commerce imports into the European Union is changing dramatically.
