{"id":644545,"date":"2026-08-19T00:51:17","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T00:51:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/644545\/"},"modified":"2026-08-19T00:51:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T00:51:17","slug":"man-accused-of-threatening-to-kill-partner-sent-her-708-voice-notes-in-48-hours-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/644545\/","title":{"rendered":"Man accused of threatening to kill partner sent her 708 voice notes in 48 hours \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A man accused of harassing and threatening to kill his partner sent her more than 700 voice-note messages over a 48-hour period, a court heard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/galway\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/galway\/\">Galway<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/district-court\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/district-court\/\">District Court<\/a> was told on Tuesday that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/mayo\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/mayo\/\">Mayo<\/a> man twice threatened to kill or cause serious harm to his partner in Co Galway on January 26th and January 28th, 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\">Garda<\/a> Sergeant Claire Heneghan said the 32-year-old threatened to cut his partner\u2019s throat and warned she would be \u201cleaving in a body bag\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">She said this message was relayed to the injured party via a phone call to her sister. Heneghan said the second threat to kill \u2013 in which the accused allegedly threatened to shoot his partner with a shotgun \u2013 was sent via the Facebook messenger app.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Both offences were contrary to section five of the Non-Fatal Offences against the Person Act. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It was also alleged the defendant harassed the woman by sending her 708 voice note messages over a 48-hour period up to January 29th, contrary to section 10 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is in custody and appeared via video link. He also faces one charge of breaching a barring order granted in a district court in Mayo in July 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Defence solicitor S\u00e9an Acton said his client and the complainant were in a long-term relationship and share children together.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">After hearing a brief outline, Judge Gerard Furlong said he accepted jurisdiction.
