Chris Hansen questioned Hollywood\u2019s motives for making \u201cPrimetime\u201d \u2014 an upcoming movie dramatizing the journalist\u2019s time as the host of NBC\u2019s \u201cTo Catch a Predator\u201d \u2014 during a podcast interview on Monday.<\/p>\n

The 66-year-old Hansen revealed that he was not heavily consulted during the creative process, despite having \u201cheard that this was in the works.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA couple months ago, they came and said, \u2018Hey look, we\u2019re doing this, we\u2019d like you to have some sort of consideration in terms of helping us with this,\u2019\u201d Hansen said during a Monday interview on \u201cSERIALOUSLY\u201d<\/a> with podcaster Annie Elise. \u201cMy suspicion is that they used my name because it helps in a commercial enterprise.\u201d <\/p>\n

Hansen told Elise that he wasn\u2019t going to judge the film before he actually sees it. <\/p>\n

\u201cUntil I see the full movie, as a reporter, it\u2019s sort of silly for me to talk about something that I haven\u2019t seen yet,\u201d he added, though he noted that the film\u2019s trailer looks \u201cvery dramatic.\u201d <\/p>\n

Hansen continued, \u201cI know [Robert Pattinson] is a very popular actor, and I know the director [Lance Oppenheim] is a popular guy. I also have some questions: What\u2019s Hollywood\u2019s motive here?\u201d<\/p>\n

Hansen admitted that had he been afforded the opportunity to choose who would play him in the film, he wouldn\u2019t have chosen 40-year-old Pattinson. <\/p>\n

\u201cObviously they want a commercial endeavor to succeed and they think this is the way it\u2019s going to succeed; I didn\u2019t get to choose my own guy,\u201d he shared. <\/p>\n

Hansen also said he crafted his own script years ago and shared that he would\u2019ve cast \u201cRescue Me\u201d actor Denis Leary to star as him \u201cdepending on the age of it all.\u201d <\/p>\n

A24 has arranged a private screening for Hansen, allowing him to evaluate the film and give his verdict. The screening is arranged for the \u201cnext week or so,\u201d according to Hansen. <\/p>\n

In the meantime, Hansen said he\u2019s been busy focusing on being the \u201creal\u201d version of himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I don\u2019t have a lot of time to focus on the fake Chris Hansen in the movie,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

A24, the film\u2019s distributor, didn\u2019t immediately respond to HuffPost\u2019s request for comment. <\/p>\n

Hansen hosted the Dateline NBC segment \u201cTo Catch a Predator\u201d from 2004 to 2007. The hidden-camera show, which documented adult men arriving at sting houses to meet up with underage minors, was canceled by NBC in 2007 following a legal fallout after a man died by suicide during a 2006 Texas sting.<\/p>\n

\u201cPrimetime,\u201d which also stars Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo and Bokeem Woodbine, hits theaters on Sep. 25. Watch Hansen\u2019s interview below.
