{"id":645236,"date":"2026-08-19T10:07:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T10:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/645236\/"},"modified":"2026-08-19T10:07:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T10:07:11","slug":"one-week-only-wild-gluten-free-move-at-virgin-lounge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/645236\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018One week only\u2019: Wild gluten-free move at Virgin lounge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gluten-free travellers across Australia are jumping for joy. <\/p>\n<p>After influencer Sopha Dopha unintentionally sparked a whirlwind feud with Sydney Airport over their <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@notsophaadophaa\/video\/7665096806006541589\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"www.tiktok.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">lack of gluten-free options<\/a> last week, one airline has come to the rescue. <\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old, whose real name is Sophia Begg, was surprised by staff at Sydney\u2019s Virgin Australia lounge earlier this week with her favourite breakfast \u2013 a gluten-free ham and cheese toastie.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"poster-img\" src=\"https:\/\/content.api.news\/v3\/images\/bin\/dcc2b9df42458c94eb86aa0410206539\" data-sctrack=\"op-poster-img\" alt=\"Virgin Australia's huge gluten-free move\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The delicious morsel, dubbed the \u2018Sopha Dopha Gluten Free Toastie\u2019, can now be ordered by travellers at any of Virgin Australia\u2019s domestic lounges across Australia \u2013 but only until August 24. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s up there, you can order it,\u201d Ms Begg said in an Instagram clip as she laughed.<\/p>\n<p>She appeared stunned by the signs the lounge had put up compelling travellers to order the toastie, adding it\u2019s a classic combo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sausages are also a staple for me in the lounge. Love you Virgin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Virgin Australia told news.com.au it \u201conly made sense\u201d for the lounge to offer this \u201cexciting, limited-time meal\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSophia was back at Sydney Airport and in true Virgin Australia style, we decided to have a little fun after she named a gluten free toastie from the Virgin Australia Lounge as her usual go-to,\u201d they explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen she announced to her 1.5 million TikTok followers that her go-to breakfast is the humble ham and cheese toastie, it only made sense to make it official across Virgin Australia\u2019s Lounges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Lounge team surprised Sophia with her favourite brekky \u2013 a ham and cheese toastie on gluten-free bread, of course.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson said the toastie has already proved to be very popular at their lounges \u2013 and while the Sopha Dopha special is for one week only, the airline is proud to offer gluten-free options year-round.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Sopha Dopha toastie has already had hundreds of comments across social media, with people sharing their excitement to try it for themselves,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe newly named \u2018Sopha Dopha Gluten Free Toastie\u2019 is currently available for one week only. <\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson said gluten-free bread, however, is available year-round, so guests can request it to create their own toastie creations in Virgin Australia\u2019s seven domestic lounges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVirgin Australia offers a range of gluten-free breakfast options for guests to enjoy, including gluten-free bread, Berry Coconut Muesli, Fresh Fruit Salad with Coconut Yoghurt, Scrambled Eggs and Chicken &amp; Thyme Sausages,\u201d they added. <\/p>\n<p>It comes as the internet was set alight last week after the influencer shared her disappointment at what she believes was a severe lack of gluten-free options at Sydney airport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSydney Airport, you need to get your sh*t together,\u201d she said <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@notsophaadophaa\/video\/7665096806006541589\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"www.tiktok.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">in the clip<\/a>, which has since racked up almost 3 million views and thousands of comments. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTell me why I\u2019m walking over to every single food place and no one does gluten-free.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery single cafe, no gluten-free bread. What would you like me to eat?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause at literally every single place, they don\u2019t have gluten-free.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Sydney Airport told news.com.au that they recognised that their recent post may have \u201cmissed the mark\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recognise that some people felt that our recent post missed the mark, our intent was to highlight the gluten free options at the airport which on this occasion failed to meet expectations,\u201d they said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that finding suitable food options when travelling is important and we\u2019re working with our retail partners to make it easier for passengers to find the information they need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of other gluten-free Aussies applauded her for speaking out, agreeing that Sydney Airport had very little options \u2013 however others urged her just to \u201cget something without bread\u201d or to \u201cbring your own food\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>Sydney Airport stunned their followers by posting a controversial response, titled \u201cSome options for our gluten-free friends\u201d and \u201chope this helps\u201d while tagging Sopha Dopha.<\/p>\n<p>The post \u2013 which had Sopha Dopha\u2019s voice from her original video playing in the background &#8211; featured photos of seven food outlets that had gluten-free options, including \u201cliterally any sushi place, look for the signs\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>While some applauded the post as being a \u201chilarious response\u201d, others said it \u201cdidn\u2019t quite land\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAh yes 7 options across 3 terminals and most of them are sold out or not available when u go, pulp and grind told me their granola wasn\u2019t gluten-free last time [sic],\u201d Sophia commented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWould just LOVE some gf toast.
