Heated Rivalry<\/a> creator Jacob Tierney has said season two<\/a> will prioritise emotion and sensuality over plot twists, adding fans of the books should already know what will happen.<\/p>\n

He said the queer hockey romance series is \u201cnot built on secrets\u201d but on \u201cfeelings and sensation\u201d.<\/p>\n

Tierney also suggested fans eager for spoilers already have plenty to go on, because the series is adapted from Rachel Reid\u2019s <\/a>Game Changers<\/a> novels<\/a>. \u201cWhat\u2019s so funny about the level of secrecy is like there\u2019s a book \u2013 you can just look at it,\u201d he told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019ll tell you honestly, 90 percent of what you\u2019d like to know is in that book.\u201d<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve not read the book, then, firstly, what are you waiting for? But secondly, there are countless beautiful moments from both Shane and Ilya, as well as plenty that will see fans reaching for the tissues (to wipe away tears, get your mind out of the gutter!). <\/p>\n

Season one introduced Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams<\/a>) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie<\/a>) as hockey rivals who develop a passionate but secretive romance. Season two is set to continue their story, drawing mostly from The Long Game which acts as a direct sequel to Heated Rivalry, while also weaving in storylines from Role Model. It\u2019s also expected that elements of Tough Guy will be included, given the recent casting of characters from that book<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For Tierney, the hook is less about holding back information and more about how it lands on screen. \u201cThis show is not built on secrets. It\u2019s built on feelings and sensation. It\u2019s a very visceral show. It\u2019s very sensual in that way, and it\u2019s all in the execution of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Season two is filming now<\/p>\n

Heated Rivalry<\/a> season two began filming<\/a> this week and is scheduled to be released in spring 2027 on Crave and HBO Max.<\/p>\n

Tierney said he is co-writing the new season with Mike Goldbach, who has \u201cbeen so amazingly helpful\u201d. He added: \u201cWe\u2019re very happy with where we\u2019re at with the scripts. We\u2019re really happy with this cast.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ensemble is also expanding, with Charlie Gillespie cast as Troy<\/a> and Justice Smith set to play Harris<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tierney said some fans have pushed back on casting choices, and Reid referenced earlier criticism<\/a> in an Instagram post: \u201cThinking about all the people last summer who told me the casting for Ilya and Shane was wrong and bad.\u201d<\/p>\n
