{"id":645806,"date":"2026-08-19T17:28:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T17:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/645806\/"},"modified":"2026-08-19T17:28:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T17:28:10","slug":"death-notice-published-for-carlow-teenager-killed-in-m9-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/645806\/","title":{"rendered":"Death notice published for Carlow teenager killed in M9 crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alex McCarthy, 16, from Carlow, was <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/news\/courtandcrime\/arid-41897968.html\">killed on Sunday morning<\/a> when the BMW in which he was travelling was driven the wrong way down the motorway and crashed into another car.<\/p>\n<p>Alex was \u201cdeeply loved by his heartbroken mother Lucelle and father Edward,\u201d the notice on RIP.ie said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The teenager was the \u201cadored brother of Jordan, Edward, Donna and Nakita\u201d and the \u201ccherished grandson of Tina Roycroft and William and Mary McCarthy,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cAlex will be sadly missed by parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, loving and heartbroken girlfriend Georgia, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives and friends.\u201d Funeral arrangements have yet to be published.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The online condolences section has been disabled on the RIP.ie notice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">However, options are available to express sympathy by sending a paid-for sympathy card, donating to charity or sending flowers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">Second death notice published\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It is the second of the five teenagers\u2019 death notices to be posted online.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">On Monday, the funeral notice for 15-year-old Joe Carthy from Athy in Co Kildare was posted on RIP.ie, but it was removed hours later following a large volume of messages online.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Joe and Alex were killed on Sunday morning alongside Jack Kennedy, 17, from Athy, Co Kildare; Jeremy O\u2019Brien, 18, from Carlow; and Kamil Pustkowski, 17, from Limerick, when the BMW in which they were travelling was driven the wrong way down the M9 motorway and collided head-on with another vehicle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Their vehicle smashed into a car carrying <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/news\/arid-41898142.html\">three sisters and a seven-year-old boy<\/a>, who were driving to an early morning flight to attend a family wedding in the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A fundraiser has been launched to support the three sisters, Alma Kinsella, Niamh Kinsella and Ella Hendricken, and the child who were seriously injured in the crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It is understood Alma and Niamh were sitting in the front of the car at the time of the incident, while their younger sister Ella and the little boy were in the back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Although two of the sisters who were hospitalised after their car was hit were initially in a critical condition, their condition is understood to have stabilised, although they remain in serious condition in hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">All four remain in hospital undergoing treatment for serious injuries.
