We\u2019ve met (some of) Marvel Studios\u2019 X-Men, with the initial cast of the 2028 movie announced<\/a> at D23 Expo 2026<\/a> last week \u2014 but when will the new generation of the Children of the Atom get in front of a camera? According to a website that tracks movie production in the UK, the answer is \u201csooner than you think.\u201d<\/p>\n

Per industry tracker Filmbase<\/a>, X-Men is \u201cexpected to start [production] towards the end of summer\u201d at a location to be confirmed, either Pinewood Studios in London or a location in Ireland. That\u2019s not based on any official notice from Marvel or Disney; as the site notes, \u201cit\u2019s what we\u2019ve pieced together from conversations with crew,\u201d which means that things might change before any official announcement is made.<\/p>\n

The mention of Pinewood as a location is a curious one; Disney has been working there for a number of years now, with the majority of Star Wars movies shooting at the studio, as well as Avengers: Doomsday<\/a> \u2014 which is what makes the idea that X-Men might be shooting there so odd. After all, Avengers: Secret Wars is also meant to be shooting at Pinewood, with Filmbase itself reporting that production on that movie will ramp back up in September after a summer hiatus to allow the Russos to work on post-production for Doomsday. Could Pinewood be home to two separate Marvel productions simultaneously?<\/p>\n

(Alternately, could X-Men be shooting scenes that tie in to Secret Wars in some way? That’s not an entirely impossible scenario.)<\/p>\n

That X-Men is this close to production, no matter the location, might feel a little early at first blush; Thunderbolts*<\/a>, the previous Marvel movie from director Jake Schreier, shot a little over a year before release (February through June 2024, the movie as released May 2025). That said, Avengers: Doomsday completed production September 2025, 15 months before release, due to the amount of post-production necessary, and X-Men might be a similarly VFX and post-production-heavy movie.<\/p>\n
