{"id":646958,"date":"2026-08-20T09:02:25","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T09:02:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/646958\/"},"modified":"2026-08-20T09:02:25","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T09:02:25","slug":"armed-with-funding-boost-spacesail-accelerates-chinas-push-to-rival-elon-musks-starlink","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/646958\/","title":{"rendered":"Armed with funding boost, SpaceSail accelerates China\u2019s push to rival Elon Musk\u2019s Starlink"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In a record funding round for China\u2019s satellite internet sector, domestic start-up SpaceSail has raised around 7 billion yuan (US$1 billion) to accelerate the buildout of a low-Earth-orbit (LEO) network designed to compete with Elon Musk\u2019s Starlink project.<\/p>\n<p>Known officially as Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology, the operator of China\u2019s <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/science\/article\/3356587\/starlink-rival-qianfan-hits-satellite-milestone-it-too-slow-and-costly?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Qianfan constellation<\/a> completed its Series B round on Monday, according to a notice published on the website of the Shanghai United Assets and Equity Exchange.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">A total of 18 investors joined the deal, including state-backed investor Shanghai Alliance Investment and hard tech-focused venture fund CAS Star. With the newly raised capital representing around 13.94 per cent equity, the company\u2019s valuation has reached about 50 billion yuan, according to the notice.<\/p>\n<p>The fundraising comes as China steps up efforts to build large-scale LEO satellite networks that can provide broadband internet and direct-to-device connectivity, <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/military\/article\/3361364\/taiwan-opens-door-starlink-now-it-must-wait-see-if-elon-musk-ready-enter?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">challenging Starlink<\/a>\u2019s dominance of the satellite internet market.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Founded in 2018 in Shanghai, SpaceSail has rapidly expanded its footprint in orbit.
