American network FX has announced Legends, a Sons of Anarchy spin-off that features the original cast. This isn’t just your typical prequel or sequel, however, as it’s taking a very different – and very meta – twist on things.<\/p>\n

As detailed in The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, the “wild twist” of the limited series will feature the cast playing fictionalised versions of themselves, in a plot that’s more than slightly reminiscent of the cult classic film Galaxy Quest.<\/p>\n

“When the cast of Sons of Anarchy reunites at a fan convention after more than a decade, the line between life and art blurs as the fractured brotherhood finds itself up against a real-world threat more dangerous than anything they ever faced in their show”, reads the synopsis.<\/p>\n

Not only will Charlie Hunnam be back, but the whole thing is actually his idea!<\/p>\n

Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment, said: “When Charlie brought us this inspired idea, we instantly sparked to his bold and entertaining vision.<\/p>\n

“Charlie’s talents are on full display as a writer, performer and executive producer, leading the real-life brotherhood on an adventure that is both a love letter to the series and a fun meta twist on what fans think they know.”<\/p>\n

He’ll be joined by fellow returning stars Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Mark Boone Junior, Theo Rossi, Kim Coates, Maggie Siff and Tommy Flanagan.<\/p>\n

It’s not the first spin-off for Sons of Anarchy, which ran for seven seasons and 92 episodes between 2008 and 2014.<\/p>\n

There was Mayans MC, which ran for five seasons and 50 episodes between 2018 and 2023, with a different main cast.<\/p>\n

More actors are set to be announced for Legends in due course, though we don’t have a release window for the show just yet. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Hunnam is currently filming a BBC adaptation of John le Carr\u00e9’s Legacy of Spies, and is riding a wave of acclaim for his Emmy-nominated performance in Monster: The Ed Gein Story.<\/p>\n
