Taylor Sheridan<\/a>\u00a0was ready to kick his feet up and retire before deciding to buy a second ranch in Texas.<\/p>\n

During a recent appearance on the \u201cRodeo Time<\/a>\u201d podcast, the 56-year-old writer and director discussed how buying the Four Sixes Ranch for $330 million prevented him from retiring and led him to sign an exclusivity deal with Paramount.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was set up to retire. I was going to be done after \u2018Yellowstone.\u2019 I\u2019d bought the ranch in Weatherford, and I paid cash. I didn\u2019t owe anybody anything,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I was going to put my feet up and show horses and have my little hobby herd over here and that was it. I knew that if I bought this ranch that I was not going to be quitting my day job for a while.\u201d<\/p>\n

He explained that before buying the ranch he needed to make sure the general manager would stay on to take care of the day-to-day duties and ensured his son was willing to take on the responsibility of running the ranch in the future.<\/p>\n

The ranch served as the backdrop for several episodes of\u00a0Season 4 of \u201cYellowstone,\u201d\u00a0and Sheridan first met its then-owner, Anne Marion, while arranging to film there.<\/p>\n

After Marion died, Sheridan recalled learning that the ranch had not been left to her daughter in her will and was going \u201cto be broken up and sold off.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taylor Sheridan, 56, planned to retire after \u2018Yellowstone,\u2019 but buying the $330M Four Sixes Ranch forced him to sign a massive deal with Paramount. Nicole Muirbrook\/Facebook<\/p>\n

\u201cBut before they did that, she had asked if they would try to find someone who would maintain her vision,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd, so, the person they came up with was me.\u201d<\/p>\n

When they approached Sheridan with the $330 million price tag, he recalled telling them, \u201cWell, boys, I\u2019m a little short. I don\u2019t have, in fact, I\u2019m about 300 million short.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cParamount had been after me to make an overall deal. They were terrified that I was going to go to greener pastures and leave them and go somewhere else, which I probably was,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Sheridan appeared on the \u201cRodeo Time\u201d podcast to discuss why he signed a contract with Paramount. Mission Real Estate Group<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, they\u2019d been for years trying to get me to sign an exclusive deal with Paramount, and I\u2019d said no.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut once this happened, I called them and I said, \u2018You know what? I think I\u2019m ready to make an overall deal.\u2019 They said, \u2018That\u2019s great. Do you have a number in mind?\u2019 And I said, \u2018Why, yes, I do. I sure do.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Sheridan led a group of investors that purchased the ranch, with the sale closing Jan. 21, 2022.<\/p>\n

Since signing the deal with Paramount, Sheridan created \u201cMayor of Kingstown,\u201d \u201c1883,\u201d \u201c1923,\u201d \u201cLioness,\u201d \u201cLandman,\u201d \u201cTulsa King\u201d and \u201cThe Madison.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLioness\u201d is airing its third season, and one of its stars, Michael Kelly, recently praised Sheridan for the quality of his work when speaking to\u00a0ScreenRant<\/a>\u00a0earlier this month.<\/p>\n
