Summer is starting to wind down, but the streaming landscape is just as active as ever.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s especially true this weekend, when platforms like HBO Max<\/a>, Hulu, Prime Video<\/a> and Paramount+ are serving up some must-watch premieres.<\/p>\n

At the top of Watch With Us<\/a>\u2019 list is Mother Mary, a musical drama starring The Devil Wears Prada 2\u2019s Anne Hathaway<\/strong><\/a> as a Lady Gaga<\/strong><\/a>-like pop diva.<\/p>\n

Also worth checking out is Steven Soderbergh<\/strong>\u2019s black comedy The Christophers, the revenge thriller Is God Is, the horror flick Passenger and the sports documentary Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter.\n<\/p>\n

Mother Mary (Anne Hathaway<\/strong><\/a>) is a pop music diva who is about to stage an all-important comeback concert. To make sure things go smoothly, she decamps to the English countryside for a week and hires an old colleague, Sam (Michaela Coel<\/strong>), to create her stage costumes. But Sam still resents Mary for denying her credit for her rise to fame and her romantic feelings for her. As the week progresses, both women confess to being haunted \u2014 literally and figuratively \u2014 by their past association with one another, and their desire to put their old resentments aside and forge a new relationship.<\/p>\n

Mother Mary is technically a psychological drama that starts in reality and moves closer to bizarre fantasy. Director and writer David Lowery<\/strong> isn\u2019t afraid to get weird, and he employs strange dreams, unexpected seances and haunting ghosts in a tale of how love and art feed into each other. Hathaway and Coel are magnetic as two artists whose collaboration brings out the best and worst in them, and the superb soundtrack, which Hathaway sings lead vocals on, makes you believe Mother Mary\u2019s pop stardom. She\u2019s a legend and an icon, but she still needs Sam by her side for her to really believe it.<\/p>\n

Julian Sklar (Ian McKellen<\/strong><\/a>) is a legendary artist way past his prime. He\u2019s counting down the days of his own death, as are his greedy children, Barnaby (James Corden<\/strong><\/a>) and Sally (Jessica Gunning<\/strong>). They hire an out-of-work artist, Lori (Michaela Coel)<\/strong>, to pose as his assistant while she secretly finishes a long-unfinished painting series, \u201cThe Christophers,\u201d so they can sell the complete set once their father is six feet under. But Julian isn\u2019t as feeble as he appears to be and Lori isn\u2019t as unscrupulous or unsympathetic as her employers. The odd couple has more in common than they think and their friendship might produce their greatest works of art yet.<\/p>\n

The Christophers came and went earlier this year, but now that it\u2019s on streaming, more people can discover the film. Part art-world thriller, part incisive character study, The Christophers tells a sentimental story without burying itself in sweetness. McKellen has one of his best roles ever in Julian, an artist willing to destroy his creations to save them from his greedy children. Ornery, difficult and not really likable, Julian is one of the most fascinating film characters of 2026, and makes The Christophers a deeply satisfying movie to watch.<\/p>\n

After quitting their jobs and leaving their homes, newly engaged couple Maddie (Lou Llobell<\/strong>) and Tyler (Jacob Scipio<\/strong>) hit the road to start their new vanlife future. Things take a grim turn when another car sideswipes them and crashes into a tree. As they probe the damaged vehicle to find any survivors, they find a severely injured man, Lucas (Miles Fowler<\/strong>), trying to crawl out of the passenger seat before being pulled away by an unseen force.<\/p>\n

What happened to Lucas? And who or what was in that car with him? Maddie and Tyler are about to find out as they find themselves haunted by the same entity that killed Lucas and countless others.<\/p>\n

Released just after the breakout hit Obsession<\/a> conquered the box office last May, Passenger didn\u2019t get the attention it deserved. The film does a good job of putting a new spin on the scary ghost trope by setting the majority of its horror story on the dark, empty roads of middle America. Director Andr\u00e9 \u00d8vredal<\/strong> previously made the cult horror classic The Autopsy of Jane Doe as well as the surprisingly inventive Dracula tale, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, and he shows a similar aptitude for squeezing thrills out of normally cliched scenarios. Passenger is a well-done horror film that will make you second-guess if the other seats in the car you\u2019re driving are truly empty.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s hell to pay in the new film Is God Is, and Racine (Kara Young<\/strong>) and Anaia (Mallori Johnson<\/strong>) are just the women to deliver it. They\u2019re twin sisters whose deadbeat dad (Sterling K. Brown<\/strong><\/a>) almost killed them and their mother years ago by setting their house on fire and leaving them for dead. Now they want to avenge their mama by hunting him down and enacting the same kind of punishment. But as their road trip progresses, the sisters can\u2019t help but attract trouble and soon, the bodies start piling up.<\/p>\n

Is God Is blends elements of Quentin Tarantino<\/strong><\/a>, Oliver Stone <\/strong>and David Lynch<\/strong>, but it looks and feels like its own thing. It\u2019s a twisted movie that isn\u2019t shy to use Biblical names and allegories to make its point, but it succeeds in chronicling a road trip from Hell like no other. Is God Is is often hard to watch \u2014 the violence is extreme and plentiful \u2014 but the filmmaking is so fresh and inventive, you can\u2019t look away.<\/p>\n

Most tennis fans know who Serbian player Novak Djokovic<\/strong><\/a> is \u2013 he\u2019s the guy who\u2019s won 24 Grand Slams and beaten everyone from Andre Agassi to current reigning No. 1 player, Jannik Sinner<\/strong>. But to most Americans, he\u2019s just \u201cthat guy who isn\u2019t Roger Federer <\/strong><\/a>or Rafael Nadal<\/strong>.\u201d Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter wants to change that.<\/p>\n

The Jason Hehir-directed documentary takes a probing look at a sports figure who is beloved in his native home country and loathed by others. The film is less a retrospective showing Djokovic\u2019s career highlights and more of a portrait of a man determined to overcome huge obstacles to achieve his dreams. After watching The Wolf in Winter, you may not like Novak Djokovic, but you\u2019ll certainly know more about him and agree with many that he is indeed the greatest male tennis player of all time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Summer is starting to wind down, but the streaming landscape is just as active as ever.
