{"id":649367,"date":"2026-08-21T16:57:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-21T16:57:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/649367\/"},"modified":"2026-08-21T16:57:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-21T16:57:15","slug":"clear-the-head-cork-students-reveal-secrets-behind-eight-h1-leaving-cert-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/649367\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Clear the head\u2019: Cork students reveal secrets behind eight H1 Leaving Cert results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/news\/cork-news\/\">Cork students<\/a> who each received eight H1 grades in this year\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/maintopics\/leaving-cert_topic-5046419.html\">Leaving Cert<\/a> have credited their exam success to keeping on top of their studies and going for runs to \u201cclear the head\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Ethan Wyse, from Douglas, and Peter Creagh, from Blackrock, each received top marks in eight subjects when they received their Leaving Cert results on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Both attended Christian Brothers College in Cork, where eight students achieved the maximum 625 points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI&#8217;m actually delighted. I&#8217;m shocked, of course. Picture: Christian Brothers College in Cork<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">\u2018Start early\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">His advice to students is simple: start early.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cReally getting going at the start of fifth year, doing a little bit of study, and doing it often, is probably the most important thing.\u201d He also advised students to keep on top of their projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cKeeping on top of your projects, as well, because especially when there&#8217;s going to be more of them introduced for nearly everything in the coming years,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cYou can\u2019t be leaving them to the final week, because we certainly had some really stressful periods a week or before project deadlines where you are just inundated with work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cGetting the jump on them early, reading the briefs, is really important,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Keeping active was also important, he believes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI found a lot of solace in running. I do athletics in Togher and I play tennis as well. Picture: Christian Brothers College in Cork<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">\u2018I made sure to keep on top of things\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">His classmate Peter Creagh was also thrilled with his eight H1s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThrilled, massive relief really. I\u2019m delighted,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He is hoping to study medicine at UCC, having opted to study French, German, biology, physics and chemistry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cIn the run up to the exams, it was pretty intense alright but during the year, I made sure to keep on top of things,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He said he tried to ensure he had covered everything taught in school each day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cIf I was going home, I\u2019d make sure I knew everything that was covered in school that day,\u201d he said of his study schedule.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI wouldn\u2019t let that build up.
