{"id":649781,"date":"2026-08-21T22:41:16","date_gmt":"2026-08-21T22:41:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/649781\/"},"modified":"2026-08-21T22:41:16","modified_gmt":"2026-08-21T22:41:16","slug":"yahya-abdul-mateen-ii-interview-on-wonder-man-cancellation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/649781\/","title":{"rendered":"Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Interview on &#8216;Wonder Man&#8217; Cancellation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/wonder-man\/\" id=\"auto-tag_wonder-man_1\" data-tag=\"wonder-man\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wonder Man<\/a> star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/yahya-abdul-mateen-ii\/\" id=\"auto-tag_yahya-abdul-mateen-ii_1\" data-tag=\"yahya-abdul-mateen-ii\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Yahya Abdul-Mateen II<\/a> is opening up about the un-renewal of the series.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<strong>\u201c<\/strong>I was told that it had something to do with the viewership numbers,\u201d he said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/story\/yahya-abdul-mateen-on-wonder-man-cancellation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">interview<\/a> with Vanity Fair. \u201cI wasn\u2019t told what those numbers were, but ultimately, for whatever reason it was, I think they decided that it didn\u2019t make sense for business, and that\u2019s the decision that we live with and we keep on marching forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/wonder-man-season-2-yahya-abdul-mateen-ii-ben-kingsley-1236544737\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Disney+ renewed the Marvel series <\/a>for a second season in March but then reversed course and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/wonder-man-canceled-disney-plus-no-season-2-1236660321\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">un-renewed the show <\/a>in late July.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAbdul-Mateen likened the un-renewal to the plot of the show, in which he starred as Simon, an aspiring actor whose goal is to be in a remake of the film Wonder Man. Simon also has superpowers, which he must keep hidden. Ben Kingsley reprised his role as actor Trevor Slattery, introduced in 2013\u2019s Iron Man 3.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a lesson in life,\u201d Abdul-Mateen said. \u201cIt\u2019s so close to what real life is. You have just this guy, Simon, who finally had his dreams come true, but we saw him overcome after all of his attempts of getting close and then not closing the deal. Many people have that experience in real life. The cancellation of the show was just another one of those examples.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe actor, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/emmys-nominations-2026-nominees-list-1236641054\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">earned an Emmy nomination<\/a> for best actor in a comedy series for his performance, added that he still has a fondness for the show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI did that job for all of the right reasons, the reasons in my heart, and I had a great time doing that job,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m just glad to still have an occasion to talk about the show and to represent the show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAs for what the story line might have looked like in season two, Abdul-Mateen said he wasn\u2019t part of that, deferring to the \u201cfantastic writers [who] did a great job of setting the tone for season one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBut, he added, \u201cI had my hopes and my dreams about where I wanted the character to go for season two. I was very interested in telling the story of Simon, who we watched pursue everything he\u2019s always wanted. And then I think, for me, the interesting question to explore is: Well, what are you going to do when you finally get it? What do you do when you finally get everything that you\u2019ve always wanted? And for a guy like Simon to get fame and notoriety and a little bit of power, he has a big heart, but he also has an ego. He also wants to be a star.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe day after news of the un-renewal broke, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/wonder-man-canceled-yahya-abdul-mateen-ii-reacts-marvel-1236661484\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Abdul-Mateen posted about it on Instagram.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWord just dropped that\u00a0Wonder Man\u00a0won\u2019t be coming back,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThat\u2019s life, right? Everything will shake out. I wanted to say thank you to everybody who WATCHED the show, ENJOYED the show, and SHARED that they enjoyed the show in some way or other. The show worked. And that\u2019s my favorite thing about it. I could see it on the faces of the Youtube Reactors (because I watched along with y\u2019all this time. Shoutout to y\u2019all) and I can see in the messages I get saying how the show reminded some of you not to give up, and I feel it in the genuine love shared when I bump into some of you all during the day.
