On the far end, it has Slow Horses, which sometimes airs new seasons with less than a year gap. On the other, it has Severance, and now Pluribus, with anywhere from 2.5-3 year breaks. We’ve known Pluribus was going to be on the very long side for a while now, but there’s a new update on that today.

Speaking with the Sundance Collab, creator Vince Gilligan confirmed that writing on season 2 has finally finished after beginning all the way back in December 2025, with filming to begin this fall. There are also indications that season 2 could increase its episode count from 9 to 10, though that hasn’t been set in stone yet. If so, that would be at least a bonus for such a long wait between seasons, and at least some measure of good news.

The whole situation is s a bit frustrating for fans, however, as Pluribus was given a two-season order from the start, but planning for season 2 has been ongoing since season 1 aired in November 2025, getting close to a year ago now. Gilligan says filming will begin in a couple of months, which could hit that year mark, if not go past it. Current estimates based on all that, plus filming timelines from season 1, that could mean something around a July 2028 release date, give or take a month. Again, almost three years since season 1.

Vince Gilligan has not been shy about how long this break will be, and why it’s happening.

“We break story brick by brick, and we regularly write ourselves into narrative corners then we spend months figuring out how to break back out of them.”

A general theme is that there appears to be no overarching long-term plan for Pluribus. Gilligan has spoken about how he would make the show as long as Rhea Seehorn was on board, and she has herself indicated she’d go as long as possible, so there is potentially no end in sight. This isn’t to say the “making it up as they go” idea won’t produce great seasons, but it’s a main reason why these gaps exist in the first place. Not even starting to film a new season until a full year after the last one airs is rather ludicrous, which we’ve seen happen with other shows like Netflix’s Wednesday.

We should, however, take what we can get at this point, and if that is potentially another full episode of the show for season 2, and possibly, hopefully, a move to 10-episode seasons after that, it’s great. We will never make it back to the Breaking Bad yearly release timeline, but hopefully, hopefully this can be slimmed down over time so we’re not in nursing homes by the conclusion of the series.

Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.

Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.

Pluribus Courtesy of Apple In an era when there are often yawning gaps between seasons of big series,…

[265
18,117,19,17,96323,275091,128,96862
post-650926","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-tv","tag-eire","tag-entertainment","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-pluribus","tag-some-good-news","tag-tv","tag-vince-gilligan
["GET
