Moby<\/a> covered the\u00a0Father\u00a0Ted<\/a>\u00a0favourite\u00a0\u2018My Lovely Horse\u2019 on stage in Dublin this week \u2013 watch footage below.<\/p>\n

The electronic pioneer played a show at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham yesterday (August 21) and towards the end of the set,\u00a0he paid tribute to one of the country\u2019s most beloved comedy songs.<\/p>\n

He introduced the track by telling the crowd, \u201cIf you need a new national anthem, may I suggest this song?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018My Lovely Horse\u2019 featured in\u00a0the\u00a0classic\u00a0Father Ted\u00a0episode \u2018A Song\u00a0For\u00a0Europe\u2019, in which Ted and Dougal attempt to\u00a0represent\u00a0Ireland in the fictional\u00a0Eurosong\u00a0competition, only to finish with\u00a0\u201cnul\u00a0points\u201d.<\/p>\n

It was written by\u00a0The Divine Comedy<\/a>\u2018s Neil Hannon, alongside\u00a0Father Ted\u00a0creators Graham Linehan and Arthur Matthews, and was later included as a B-side on The Divine Comedy\u2019s 1999 single \u2018Gin Soaked\u00a0Boy\u2019.<\/p>\n

It is not the first time that Moby has played \u2018My Lovely Horse\u2019 live \u2013 in 2001, he performed it Father Dougal actor Ardal O\u2019Hanlon in front of approximately\u00a080,000 people\u00a0at Slane Castle in Ireland.<\/p>\n

\u2018A Song\u00a0For\u00a0Europe\u2019 received renewed attention earlier this year when\u00a0Irish broadcaster RT\u00c9 aired the episode in place of the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest<\/a>, following the country\u2019s decision to boycott the event over Israel\u2019s participation.<\/p>\n

Moby, meanwhile, is in the middle of a run of European dates, and at a recent show\u00a0on Brighton Beach,\u00a0he praised the UK\u2019s role in developing rave culture<\/a>, telling the crowd that British DJs and promoters had transformed house music into the communal experience he discovered during visits in the early \u201990s.<\/p>\n

He released his latest studio album \u2018Future Quiet\u2019 in February<\/a>, and recently\u00a0described the Trump\u00a0government\u00a0as \u201cthe most corrupt, evil and incompetent\u201d\u00a0administration<\/a>.<\/p>\n
