A PEDESTRIAN WHO died after being hit by a car in Co Mayo has been named locally.<\/p>\n
Sheila Holian (81) of Glebe Street, Ballinrobe, died at Mayo University Hospital on Saturday from injuries sustained from being struck by a car while she was walking near her home last Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n
She died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.<\/p>\n
Locals said the mother of four had a long association with a number of local organisations, including Ballinrobe Golf Club.<\/p>\n
Local councillor Michael Burke from Ballinrobe said the town is both shocked and devastated by the sad loss of one of Ballinrobe\u2019s most popular and best-loved personalities.<\/p>\n
\u201cSheila lived in Glebe Street all her life and was such an integral figure within the town centre and gave so much to the community. She will be greatly missed, a woman blessed with so many lovely qualities.<\/p>\n
\u201cA shadow of immense sadness has been cast over the town by the tragedy, and my heart goes out to the families impacted,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
She is predeceased by her husband Pat, her parents Michael and May, and several other family members.<\/p>\n
She will be \u201cforever loved and missed\u201d by her children Damien, Anne, Shelly and Edel and extended family, a post on Rip.ie says.<\/p>\n
No funeral arrangements have been made as yet.<\/p>\n
Sheila Holian is the 125th person to lose her life on Irish roads this year, a figure which is 12 more than the same period last year.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.<\/p>\n
Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage and were travelling in the area of the N84\/Glebe Street, Ballinrobe between 3.50pm and 4.50pm on Thursday 20 August are asked to make this available to investigating garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n
