{"id":653230,"date":"2026-08-24T03:53:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T03:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/653230\/"},"modified":"2026-08-24T03:53:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T03:53:12","slug":"new-huddersfield-exhibition-celebrates-peter-brook-and-the-pennine-landscapes-that-inspired-his-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/653230\/","title":{"rendered":"New Huddersfield exhibition celebrates Peter Brook and the Pennine landscapes that inspired his art"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A special exhibition celebrating the work of one of Yorkshire\u2019s best-known landscape painters is coming to Huddersfield in September.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Brook RBA \u2013 The Pennine Landscape Painter will run at AC Gallery on Byram Street from Saturday September 5 to Saturday October 3.<\/p>\n<p>Brook, who was born in Scholes near Holmfirth in 1927, became known for paintings inspired by the hills, villages, stone buildings and changing weather of the Pennines.<\/p>\n<p>His career took his work well beyond Yorkshire but the landscape around Huddersfield and Holmfirth remained at the heart of his paintings.<\/p>\n<p>After studying at Barnsley Grammar School and Goldsmiths College in London, Brook returned to Yorkshire following National Service. He worked as an art teacher while developing the distinctive painting style that would make his name.<\/p>\n<p>His first one-man exhibition was held at Wakefield City Art Gallery in 1960 and was favourably reviewed by The Times.<\/p>\n<p>In 1962 he was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists. He was later represented by long-established London art dealer Agnews and held a series of solo exhibitions in the capital during the late 1960s and early 1970s. His work was also exhibited internationally.<\/p>\n<p>Despite that wider success, the Pennines remained his main source of inspiration throughout his career.<\/p>\n<p>The Huddersfield exhibition will include original paintings, rare signed prints and estate-approved prints.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-126551 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Peter-Brook-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"707\" height=\"1000\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>AC Gallery has been the main dealer and exclusive publisher for Brook\u2019s work since 1999.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Baggs, of AC Gallery, said: \u201cPeter Brook\u2019s work is inseparable from the Pennine landscape. This exhibition gives visitors the opportunity to see that landscape through the eyes of an artist who knew it intimately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brook, who died in 2009, also had another strong Holmfirth connection as a member of Holmfirth Harriers, taking up fell running later in life.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition runs at AC Gallery, 11 Byram Street, Huddersfield, HD1 1DA, from September 5 to October 3.<\/p>\n<p>It is open on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.
