{"id":655792,"date":"2026-08-25T14:38:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T14:38:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/655792\/"},"modified":"2026-08-25T14:38:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T14:38:12","slug":"parliamentary-probe-into-dup-mp-gregory-campbells-constituency-spending-the-irish-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/655792\/","title":{"rendered":"Parliamentary probe into DUP MP Gregory Campbell\u2019s constituency spending \u2013 The Irish News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Parliament\u2019s expenses watchdog has opened an investigation into the DUP MP Gregory Campbell.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa) on Tuesday said it had opened an investigation into whether the East Derry MP had breached spending rules.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Ipsa said the probe related to office costs, specifically \u201cprinted constituency cards, signage and bought-in services\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It added: \u201cNo further information will be published until the investigation has been concluded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/news\/northern-ireland\/sinn-feins-john-finucane-wont-confirm-if-he-met-with-daniel-kinahan-and-compares-it-to-asking-a-surgeon-which-patients-theyd-spoken-to-GDLQQ7CUDZGJ7FY6LIW76BXEUQ\/\" aria-hidden=\"true\" tabindex=\"-1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Sinn F&#xE9;in&#x2019;s John Finucane won&#x2019;t confirm if he met with Daniel Kinahan and compares it to asking a surgeon which patients they&#x2019;d spoken to\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/PIXMLHXKYVKTRIGRUMOBYDWQBU.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/><\/a><a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/news\/northern-ireland\/decision-to-ban-drumcree-parade-to-be-queshed-high-judge-rules-OP752ELCCRALFCAZUHIW7XF36A\/\" aria-hidden=\"true\" tabindex=\"-1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Decision to ban Drumcree parade to be quashed, High Court Judge rules \" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/NQL2GSPCFBD5ZKCFT7P3FMTHKQ.jpeg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Mr Campbell is the first MP to face a new investigation by Ipsa this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Last year, the watchdog opened inquiries into spending by Labour MP Kate Osborne and ex-MP and former Labour minister Geoffrey Robinson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Labour MP Tahir Ali was cleared of breaching Parliament\u2019s expenses rules after an Ipsa investigation, which found he was \u201ccareful with spending public money\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Mr Campbell is the DUP\u2019s Westminster spokesman on international development and the Cabinet Office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He was first elected as the MP for his Northern Ireland constituency in 2001.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Mr Campbell\u2019s office has been contacted for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Parliament\u2019s expenses watchdog has opened an investigation into the DUP MP Gregory Campbell.
