Andrew Coscoran produced the performance of his life to power into the 1500m final at the World Championships in Tokyo on Monday evening, the Balbriggan man kicking to fifth place in his semi-final in 3:35.65.<\/p>\n

The race was won by Dutch star Niels Laros in 3:35.50, with Coscoran showing impressive speed on the dash to the finish to secure one of six automatic qualifying spots.<\/p>\n

It’s the first time in Coscoran’s career that he’s reached a global outdoor final, having reached semi-finals in the past at both world and Olympic level. The final is scheduled for Wednesday night while he will also be in action in the 5000m later in the week.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the evening, Sarah Lavin came home fourth in her semi-final of the 100m hurdles, the Limerick hurdler clocking 12.86, which in the end was not enough to secure a place in the final as a non-automatic qualifier. Still, it was another solid showing from the experienced hurdler, who was ranked 28th in the world this year but finished 13th overall.<\/p>\n
