Whenever the Marvel Cinematic Universe<\/a> is in peril, dozens of heroes rise to the occasion and try to save the day. These legendary characters constantly put their lives on the line to protect others, and some would be happy to do it for years and years to come. Unfortunately, these veterans can’t be around forever, which is why a major theme throughout the events of the Multiverse Saga has been passing the baton to new faces.<\/p>\n

Steve Rogers originally retired to live a simpler life with Peggy Carter, but not before passing the Captain America mantle to Sam Wilson. Similarly, Natasha Romanoff sacrificed herself to give the rest of the Avengers a chance to restore half of all life in the universe. Fortunately, Yelena Belova has kept the Black Widow legacy alive. To top things off, a new generation of X-Men<\/a> will take over the spotlight soon. However, it seems the list of changes won’t stop there, as yet another member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes could be out of the picture by the time Avengers: Secret Wars comes our way.<\/p>\n

Ant-Man will reportedly die in Avengers: Doomsday; Cassie Lang to take his place moving forward<\/p>\n

The Avengers movies are usually accompanied by a lot of deaths. Phil Coulson, Quicksilver, Gamora, Vision, Iron Man, and Black Widow all met their end during one of these big crossovers, and the streak won’t be broken in Avengers: Doomsday<\/a>. According to insider MyTimeToShineHello<\/a>, Scott Lang will die in the upcoming MCU project, but his sacrifice could be one of the reasons why the multiverse will have a chance to fight back against Doctor Doom.<\/p>\n

Ant-Man will reportedly use his last minutes of life to guide Cassie Lang and “her group” to the Quantum Realm, where they will be beyond Doom’s reach. Furthermore, this group will be one of the resistance teams in Avengers: Secret Wars. While it wasn’t specified who exactly will join Cassie Lang in the Quantum Realm, it isn’t far-fetched to assume it will be the rest of the Champions.<\/p>\n

This potential plot point coincides with another report<\/a> that claims there will be three main groups in Avengers: Secret Wars: one comprising veteran heroes, another made up of never-before-seen characters, and the last one of “newbies” who are likely to be the Champions. The rest of the MCU will be “brainwashed” by Doctor Doom and under his control, leaving the fate of the multiverse in the hands of those three groups that still have free will.<\/p>\n

Ant-Man’s sacrifice could mirror that of Doctor Strange in Avengers: Infinity War, where the sorcerer willingly gave up his life, knowing that it would allow the rest of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to undo Thanos’s actions. However, Scott Lang is unlikely to return after his own passing, making his farewell all the more important (and heartbreaking, nevertheless).<\/p>\n

Fans have speculated about Scott’s fate since before the release of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. Many believed his last standalone movie should have ended with his death to truly showcase the dangers of the multiverse and how powerful Kang could be. Now, it seems Marvel is keen on delivering on this idea, only this time, during the events of Avengers: Doomsday and at the hands of Victor von Doom.<\/p>\n

The Champions’ debut has been rumored for years now, and even teased during the post-credits scene of The Marvels. Furthermore, it has been reported that VisionQuest<\/a> will give us a glimpse of what Marvel has planned for the Champions<\/a>. It’s clear that this new generation of younger heroes will have a prominent role in the MCU moving forward, with some characters filling the void left by their mentors before them, Cassie Lang being the perfect example. A similar scenario could also be in store for Kate Bishop as she takes up the “Hawkeye” mantle from this point onward.<\/p>\n

Only time will tell what surprises Marvel has in store for the culmination of its Multiverse Saga, but it is clear that the upcoming Avengers movies will mark the last appearance of characters we’ve followed for years now, so let’s hope they go out with a bang.<\/p>\n

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.<\/p>\n
