{"id":65732,"date":"2025-09-15T15:46:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-15T15:46:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/65732\/"},"modified":"2025-09-15T15:46:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-15T15:46:10","slug":"man-charged-with-assault-causing-harm-and-burglary-after-pensioner-dies-in-tipperary-town-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/65732\/","title":{"rendered":"Man charged with assault causing harm and burglary after pensioner dies in Tipperary Town \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">A 31-year-old has been remanded in custody charged with assault causing harm to a retired man who died in hospital days after being found injured at his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tipperary\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tipperary\/\">Co Tipperary<\/a> home by his wife.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">Sean Harding, of Marian Terrace, Tipperary Town, appeared before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/district-court\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/district-court\/\">Nenagh District Court<\/a> following his arrest as part of the investigation into the assault on Teddy Murnane (81).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">Mr Harding was charged with assault causing harm to Mr Murnane, a retired bus driver, at his home at St Michael\u2019s Avenue, Tipperary Town on September 12th last.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He was also charged with two counts of burglary at Mr Murnane\u2019s property and a third count of burglary at another property on St Michael\u2019s Avenue on the same date.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Det Garda Conor Gleeson, of Cashel Garda station, gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution. He said the accused replied \u201cNo\u201d to all four charges when they were put to him after caution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Defence solicitor Colin Morrissey told Judge Fiona Brennan that Mr Harding was not making an application for bail at this stage and was consenting to being remanded in custody.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Sgt Regina McCarthy asked the judge to remand the suspect in custody to appear by video link at Thurles District Court on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Mr Morrissey said he was aware his client had already received medical attention while in Garda custody and he requested that Mr Harding receive all appropriate care while on remand. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He also applied for free legal aid, saying his client is in receipt of social welfare. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Judge Brennan granted both applications.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\">An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na<\/a> on Monday announced that Mr Murnane had died at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/university-hospital-limerick\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/university-hospital-limerick\/\">University Hospital Limerick<\/a>.
