This could cost them hundreds of pounds in the coming years.&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">It is not yet clear by exactly how much the state pension will outstrip the UK&#8217;s \u00a312,570 personal allowance (below which no income tax is paid).  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">The state pension &#8220;triple lock&#8221; means it will rise by either 2.5%, the rate of CPI inflation (currently 4.1%) or the rate of average wage growth (currently 2.9%), whichever is highest.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">Wage growth looks likely to be the winner, barring any unexpected events before September, which is the end of the inflation data period taken into account.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">Should the rate remain at 4.1%, that would mean a state pension of \u00a313,062 next year, of which \u00a3492 would potentially be subject to income tax.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">Those who have delayed their pension would have a higher tax bill still.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">The Money team understands the Treasury will set out further details on the matter in due course.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">A Treasury spokesperson said: &#8220;Pensioners whose only income is the full new or basic state pension without any increments will not pay income tax and we are committed to that over this Parliament.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">&#8220;By keeping the triple lock, 12 million pensioners will see their income rise by up to \u00a3470 this year, and they continue to benefit from one of the most generous personal allowances in the G7.&#8221;
