\n\tMarvel<\/a> fans are being given some homework.<\/p>\n

\n\tAvengers: Doomsday<\/a> director Joe Russo<\/a> says watching Avengers: Endgame<\/a> is \u201crequired\u201d to understand the upcoming film.<\/p>\n

\n\tRusso told Fandango<\/a> that the upcoming Avengers: Endgame Encore \u2014 a re-release of the 2019 blockbuster featuring additional footage \u2014 is \u201cgoing to connect the story of the two movies. There\u2019s a natural progression from Endgame into Doomsday, which is also inclusive of all the other stories that have been playing out. But I think it\u2019s important to see Endgame again in theaters for two reasons: One, you\u2019re going to have a lot of fun \u2026 and two, I think it\u2019s required viewing for following the story in Doomsday.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHis brother and directing partner Anthony Russo<\/a> added, \u201cIf you saw Endgame when it was originally released, you couldn\u2019t see this coming.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tWith its 185 minute runtime, Endgame Encore has roughly four minutes of extra footage and includes a sneak peek at Doomsday. The film will be released on Sept. 25.<\/p>\n

\n\tEndgame currently stands at $2.79 billion at the global box office, one notch behind the all-time record holder, the 2009 smash\u00a0Avatar, which has a $2.9 billion lifetime gross. If the Endgame re-release generates enough in ticket sales, it could overthrow Avatar to become the highest-grossing movie of all time. <\/p>\n

\n\tDoomsday is released Dec. 18 and has already racked up millions in advance ticket sales. <\/p>\n

\n\tDoomsday returns Robert Downey Jr. to the MCU in a new role, as the villainous Doctor Doom, and has a sprawling cast, ranging from stars of the original 2000s\u00a0X-Men\u00a0movies such as Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, to original\u00a0Avengers\u00a0castmembers such as Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, to\u00a0Black Panther\u2018s Letitia Wright and Winston Duke, to more recent MCU additions, such as\u00a0Shang-Chi\u2018s Simu Liu and\u00a0Fantastic Four: First Steps\u2018 Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn. There\u2019s also Captain America actor Anthony Mackie and\u00a0Ant-Man\u00a0star Paul Rudd, in addition to\u00a0Thunderbolts\u00a0players Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell and David Harbour.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Marvel fans are being given some homework.
