{"id":660121,"date":"2026-08-28T00:26:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-28T00:26:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/660121\/"},"modified":"2026-08-28T00:26:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-28T00:26:09","slug":"susan-sarandon-stephen-king-and-the-muppets-pay-tribute-to-tim-curry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/660121\/","title":{"rendered":"Susan Sarandon, Stephen King and The Muppets pay tribute to Tim Curry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article-updated-redesign article-updated-redesign-\" title=\"Thursday 27 Aug 2026, 12:21 PM\">\n<p>                            LAST UPDATE<br \/>\n                            |<br \/>\n                            13 hrs ago\n                        <\/p>\n<p>TRIBUTES HAVE BEEN paid to English actor Tim Curry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejournal.ie\/tim-curry-dead-7143114-Aug2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">following his death at the age of 80<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Curry\u2019s long-time manager and friend Marcia Hurwitz confirmed on Wednesday that he had died at his Los Angeles home.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Known for his wit and gift with voices, Curry was renowned for his portrayal of villains during a career that spanned nearly six decades, including Pennywise in It, the snooty concierge Mr Hector in Home Alone 2, and Frank-N-Furter in Rocky Horror Picture Show, among many others.<\/p>\n<p>He retired from film acting in 2012 after a major stroke that left his left side paralysed, though he continued to do voice work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Susan Sarandon, who starred as Janet in The Rocky Horror Picture Show opposite Curry\u2019s Dr Frank-N-Furter, shared several photos of them together on Instagram. \u201cWhat a funny, sexy, original he was. But what I loved about him most was his heart,\u201d she wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven wheelchair bound he continued to be so sweet and generous with his fans. Thank you Tim for meaning so much to so many people. Alamy Stock Photo<\/p>\n<p>    Alamy Stock Photo\n<\/p>\n<p>Barry Bostwick, who portrayed Janet\u2019s fianc\u00e9 Brad in the Rocky Horror, also paid tribute by referencing one of the songs in the film: \u201cThe river was deep but you swam it\u2026 the road was long but you ran it. Dammit Tim, I love you!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Welsh actor Luke Evans, who portrayed Frank-N-Furter in the 2026 Broadway production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, wrote: \u201cThree weeks ago, I wrote a letter to Tim Curry. He was a force, a bright fierce flame, an exquisite charm and that rich vocal tone, he was an inspiration to me and so many more people for the roles he played and the effect he had on so many of us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will only be one Tim Curry. All the rest of us will just have to do our best to emulate some of the magic of that role that I\u2019ve just spent 7 months playing.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\u2018A good egg and a class act\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Evans also shared the letter he wrote to Curry, where he said being compared to him was \u201cone of the greatest compliments I\u2019ve ever received\u201d and thanked him for his \u201cfearless performance\u201d as Frank-N-Furter.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to the New Zealand Herald, Rocky Horror Picture Show creator Richard O\u2019Brien said: \u201cTim Curry was a wonderful man by nature who was also a wonderful performer and understood the difference between such delightful achievements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe never sought attention and never put himself before the roles that he played. He was, in short, a good egg and class act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Curry also starred in the 1982 musical film Annie playing con-artist Rooster Hannigan, brother to Carol Burnett\u2019s Miss Hannigan, where he plots with his girlfriend to pose as the orphan\u2019s parents to gain a reward.<\/p>\n<p>The US actress and comedian shared a clip from the film of the pair performing the song Easy Street. \u201cWe had such a wonderful time working together on \u201cAnnie.\u201d Nobody could play lovable villains better than he could,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a dear friend. I was blessed to know him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Honorary Muppet\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Among his other roles was Long John Silver in the 1996 classic Muppet Treasure Island.<\/p>\n<p>A tribute on the Muppets\u2019 Instagram account read: \u201cFew humans have earned the title of honorary Muppet more than the legendary Tim Curry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a performer he was unparalleled \u2013 witty, charming, unnerving, and deeply funny.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will always consider it one of our greatest treasures to have been part of Long John Silver\u2019s crew. Alamy Stock Photo<\/p>\n<p>    Alamy Stock Photo\n<\/p>\n<p>Rob Schneider paid tribute to his \u201cgreat and wonderful\u201d Home Alone 2 co-star, saying: \u201cIt was truly an honour to know you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He shared a lengthy message to Instagram, accompanied by a picture of Curry in the Christmas film, in which he also said: \u201cI have never known another actor who could say more with a knowing grin or a raised eyebrow than the splendid Tim Curry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schneider described feeling \u201castonished as a young actor\u201d as he watched his co-star film seven \u201ccompletely different\u201d but \u201cfantastic\u201d takes of a scene.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cI asked him about it, and he gave me a great gift. Tim said, \u2018I want to give the director different choices! It\u2019s not my job to decide which one. It\u2019s up to him!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Actor Richard E Grant shared a photo of Curry in his famous role in The Rocky Horror Picture Show as he paid tribute, praising the star for his \u201cindelible, fearless insouciance\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It author Stephen King also paid tribute, writing on Threads: \u201cTim Curry, the original Pennywise.
