Parts of Killarney, Co Kerry<\/a>, and Cabra, Dublin city, experienced significant flooding<\/a> on Thursday night. <\/p>\n

Killarney saw \u201ctorrential downpours\u201d, according to Kerry County Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Some roads in the town were \u201cimpassable\u201d after \u201csignificant flash flooding<\/a>\u201d, the council said on X.<\/p>\n

Mayor of Killarney<\/a> John O\u2019Donoghue said most of the town had been hit by \u201cthe worst flooding in a lifetime\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe clean up job will be immense and my thoughts are with all those seeing the waters come in their doors causing huge damage to homes and businesses,\u201d he said in a post on social media.<\/p>\n

The Kerry Independent Alliance councillor said council crews were doing their \u201cutmost in difficult circumstances to quell the tide\u201d.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cthankfully\u201d, water seemed to be receding from parts of the town.<\/p>\n

\u201cI realise many other places are still submerged,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Separately, a status orange rain warning was issued for Dublin<\/a>, warning of spells of \u201cvery heavy rain\u201d.<\/p>\n

Some areas of the capital were flooded on Thursday night, including parts of Cabra in Dublin 7. Footage posted on X showed flooding on Offaly Road, next to Christ the King Boys National School and church.<\/p>\n

Local Green Party<\/a> councillor Feljin Jose said the flooding was \u201cvery significant\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t see any houses flooded, thankfully, but all the roads around the church in Cabra East were flooded,\u201d he said, adding that it was \u201cincredibly scary with a lot of rain to come tonight\u201d.<\/p>\n

Jose, who lives nearby, said Dublin City Council<\/a> crews were pumping water and clearing drains.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut the drains are full. There\u2019s nowhere for the water to go,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s much, especially around Cabra, that has been tarmacked over and concreted over. It can\u2019t take all that water. There\u2019s water coming out of the drains,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The orange alert, issued late on Thursday night, remained in place until 3am on Friday and warned of \u201cvery difficult travelling conditions\u201d.<\/p>\n

Met \u00c9ireann<\/a> also extended a previously issued status yellow rain warning to include counties Kildare and Dublin.<\/p>\n

That alert, which includes counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork and Waterford, warned of heavy rain with a possibility of thunderstorms and potential localised flooding.<\/p>\n

It was extended to last until 6am on Friday.<\/p>\n
