A shop owner has painted a mural in his home garden inspired by an iconic tree that was illegally cut down in 2023.<\/p>\n
The owner of Art on Glass in Newark, Carl Porter, has given wings to his creativity after having to remove a lilac tree from his garden just before Christmas 2025.<\/p>\n
The mural at his home in Coddington took a few nights to paint – and is 40ft long and around 11ft tall.<\/p>\n

The mural displays the much-loved Sycamore Gap Tree next to Hadrian\u2019s Wall in Northumberland, which was cut down overnight by two men on September 28, 2023.<\/p>\n
The painting was also inspired by Carl\u2019s wife, Sandra, who wanted something new and colourful in the garden after the tree removal. Her maiden surname is Sycamore.<\/p>\n
Carl said people are impressed with the mural and keep asking him when he is \u201cpacking up the shop\u201d so he can go and paint other people\u2019s gardens.<\/p>\n
