around the point of maximum eclipse.<\/p>\n<p>But when is the next <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15689-lunar-eclipses.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15689-lunar-eclipses.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-article-category=\"stargazing\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15689-lunar-eclipses.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lunar eclipse<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-0a001f5a-a309-11f1-a18a-27e7918704a7-2\"><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/55-earths-moon-formation-composition-and-orbit.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/55-earths-moon-formation-composition-and-orbit.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-article-category=\"stargazing\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/55-earths-moon-formation-composition-and-orbit.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the moon<\/a> again until Feb. 20, 2027, when a penumbral eclipse will cast our planet&#8217;s soft outer shadow across <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/full-moon-names-2026-explained\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/full-moon-names-2026-explained\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-article-category=\"stargazing\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/full-moon-names-2026-explained\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">February&#8217;s full &#8220;Snow Moon&#8221;<\/a>, so named for target=\"_blank\">binoculars<\/a> deliver detailed views of the moon without needing a tripod by completely eliminating hand-shake.<\/p>\n<p class=\"fancy-box__body-text\"><a lunar eclipse, where the moon passes into Earth&#8217;s intense inner shadow \u2014 the umbra \u2014 revealing our planet&#8217;s curved silhouette on the lunar surface.<\/p>\n<p>Our planet&#8217;s deeper umbral shadow will miss the moon entirely on Feb. 20, 2027, setting the stage for an understated show of orbital mechanics, as the moon&#8217;s silver lustre is almost imperceptibly dimmed by Earth&#8217;s penumbra.<\/p>\n<p>            You may like<\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-ca54a960-a309-11f1-8e97-f34e29f6c1c9\">The soft penumbral shadow will be most apparent at 6:12 p.m. EST (2312 GMT) on Feb. 20, as the moon passes closer to our planet&#8217;s umbra, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/eclipse\/lunar\/2027-february-20\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/eclipse\/lunar\/2027-february-20\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-article-category=\"stargazing\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to Time and Date<\/a>.
