US forces struck two Iranian launchers on Iran’s Larak Island, a US official said, marking \u2060the first known American strikes on Iran since late July.<\/p>\n
Iran responded by attacking US forces stationed in Jordan, according to a Fox News reporter, citing a US source. <\/p>\n
Nearly all incoming missiles “have been intercepted at this point,” the reporter’s X post said, noting that there had been no significant impact so far.<\/p>\n
Of the initial US strikes, the US official said, “I can confirm that earlier today US forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were observed preparing \u200cto launch rockets with sea \u2060mines into Strait of Hormuz.”<\/p>\n
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the attack killed and wounded several soldiers and citizens and would be met with a “response and punishment” from Tehran, Iranian state media reported.<\/p>\n
Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported the US carried out a drone strike on the island.<\/p>\n
US President Donald Trump said last week that all \u200cmines had been detonated or removed from the international waters of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran has been told that any ship \u2060or boat placing new mines will be destroyed.<\/p>\n
The last known US strikes on Iran \u200cwere in late July as the war has reached a stalemate in recent \u2060weeks with Washington threatening \u200cto impose costly sanctions on countries that support Iran.<\/p>\n
The US and Israel attacked Iran on 28 February and Iran responded with its own strikes on Israel and Gulf states that host US bases. <\/p>\n
The Iran war has \u2060now crossed the six-month mark.<\/p>\n
US-Israeli strikes on Iran and Israeli attacks on Lebanon have killed thousands and displaced \u2060millions of people. <\/p>\n
There have been 18 US service members killed in the conflict.<\/p>\n
The war has led to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which before the conflict was used to transit about a fifth of the world’s oil supply.<\/p>\n
